MIDI FX not Bouncing to Track
I have Cake's velocity midi plug on a midi track to tame some obnoxiously loud piano sounds. It works great on playback, but when I bounce to track with all FX, the velocity plug is not working. Anyone seen this behavior? Ideas?

when I bounce to track with all FX, the velocity plug is not working. Check the 'power' button on the MIDI FX GUI itself. It's on/off state is independent of the 'enable' button for the plugin found in the FX Bin. That's the only way that I've been able to find that will cause the Velocity MFX to not work in a Bounce To Track, given the process that you've described.

Yes - it is enabled on the GUI also. Very weird. I wonder if there is some global setting that was accidentally changed or something. Frustrating.... Another hint might be that when I bounce, intermittently the project gets very crackly when I try to playback again after the bounce. I have to shut down SONAR and then restart. Again, very frustrating...

Bounce it down to a .wav first WITHOUT the FX. Then apply a clip gain envelope. Doesn't explain the behaviour you're experiencing, but solves your problem.

ORIGINAL: Bristol_Jonesey Bounce it down to a .wav first WITHOUT the FX. Then apply a clip gain envelope. Doesn't explain the behaviour you're experiencing, but solves your problem. Thanks for the suggestion, but that won't work for me. The problem is the harshness caused by the velocity. In other words, I can turn it down, but the piano sound is still messed up due to the velocity. When the velocity is lower, it has a different tone to it. I hope that makes sense.

that won't work for me How about applying the MIDI FX before bouncing to track? Process -> MIDI Fx -> Cakewalk FX -> Velocity.

ORIGINAL: b rock that won't work for me How about applying the MIDI FX before bouncing to track? Process -> MIDI Fx -> Cakewalk FX -> Velocity. So in other words - a 'Bounce to Clip' kind of thing, but for MIDI? I will try that when I get home. I tried doing a 'Bounce to Clip' on the MIDI, but it didn't seem to do anything. Should I use the method you outlined for this process?

No, it's not a bounce -- it processes the whole MIDI Track (or just the selected area). This is a destructive operation, so be smart and make a copy of your MIDI track, and apply the effect there, bounce and listen to the result. If you don't like what you're hearing, throw out the processed MIDI track and start over with the virgin track, with different settings in the MIDI Fx this time.
