MIDI Issue after installing Dorchester

I never had this problem since i installed the Dorchester. any time i press record during playing midi tracks it cuts the sustain of midis in playing and become normal in the next entry(note). For example I am playing a loop from RMX which is 4 bars and the next track i want to record is piano , as soon as I press record , it won't play the RMX till 4bars passes and will play the second 4bars which is the new entry.I hope I did explain it properly
Thanks for any help.

I noticed midi notes being cut off when input-enabling audio input tracks. Related? I don't know. Doesn't seem right, though.

When you say won't play till 4 bars passes, is that a loop with many notes or just long notes that start at the 4 bar boundary? In other words, are there some notes in your midi loop not being played at all?

Thanks for your reply. Yes it is a loop with a long note .
I tried with a new project and just loaded a simple piano and recorded just 1 long note in 2 bars. now when i go back and want to record another note in the same track on the previews note that I already recorded it cuts the last note as soon as i press record or even pressing cont+C to copy. I can say any activity during playing any long midi note will causes cutting the note.
Also type of recording is sound on sound.

I rolled back to cambridge and problem solved. So it means it is a bug in the new update.

This is the workaround I've got from very helpful Mr. Joey Adams from Technical Support.

I tested your procedure and found that this does indeed occur in the latest (Dorchester) update only. I have forwarded this information to our development team so that this can be addressed in a future update of SONAR. However, for now, I would recommend that instead of using the Record button in the middle of playback, you simply click the Record button (or press "R") from a Stopped state.

What can I say. We should be 'upgrading'. It seem like we are kinda 'downgrading'.

I don't wanna be disrespectful but thats why some times folk asking why the other DAWs are more popular than sonar in the professional and high end studios in the music industry? I was fan of cake wake since it started with first version on the floppy disk till now. But i believe instead of adding some sounds and FX in any new version which most of them have bug if the company works more on what ever they are releasing and give their clients a good and less buggy version , it can make users more happy and makes the product more trustable. I love sonar but I wish like the Logic that now apple owns it, sonar could get advantage of Microsoft and could be a part of Microsoft app or something like that because Having support of Microsoft will tempt all the other 3rd party companies to focus more on sonar.
I got the sonar membership to have all the new upcoming futures, not to roll back my latest update because the new update made the software useless. Honestly It would be the last year i pay for my subscription and prefer stay with whatever i have unless cakewalk stop adding sugar to their cakes and just think about how they can make a healthy product.

@REZA - I agree but did you see the bugfix list in the PDF supplied? This time around they also finally fixed drum maps and brought some long standing MIDI issues to a close. Sadly though regression bugs will always exist. The other alternative would be not to fix them... not an option I think you would agree.

The situation will get better over the next 12 months...  There's just a lot of catch up to happen as the product was neglected for too long.

It is true they fixed a lot of stuff & the same time broke the other stuff that should not have any problem before this. Is that good? or we are in a big loop?.  Another 12 month, another version comes out, still there is bug.

Let's be honest here they are fixing more than they are breaking... I've got an issue with track templates and drum maps right now which apparently isn't regression (but I'm not so sure). By the sound of it ...it is already fixed for next month's release regardless. Assuming this is going to work as advertised next month I'm a happy bunny.

The fact is you do break stuff when you are fixing... can't be helped.. and there's still a lot of stuff that needs fixing.... and it's happening - and this is all down to their monthly update cycle. It's probably the best thing that has ever happened to Sonar. Your issue is a big issue but hopefully for no longer for a month. In the meantime there are loads of other rejoicing that their issue has been fixed... finally. They waited years, you might have to wait a month.

And you have options - you can roll back and wait for a month. I see you have already done it.

Life in Sonarland is still not perfect, but it is better and getting better.

I agree 100% with the Doktor. That doesn't happen often hey😉 Also the monthly release cycle is bringing all the users so much closer to the action. Means we get a huge amount of input into Sonars development and direction. And of course bug fixes as they get found faster and squashed faster because any new bug is part of a smaller subset of new changes to the code.

I am agree and understand it, but my point is :  here is a big big difference between professional and semi professional tools. No matter if the semi professional  give you lots of features that most of them crash on you. I never ever seen any sonar version works with no problem. when I compare it to  the other DAWs , I see most of the 3rd party companies first test their program with protools and logic and... almost at the end with sonar. Or let say if you want to buy any control surface, you will find all of them designed first for protools and logic , Cubase and hardly they talk about sonar. What is the their logic behind this scenario ? I am %150 agree that the sonar always provides the most useful tools and it is more further than the time  but I always ask my self why sonar cant compete with protools and logic and take the market with this lots of features. I remember 2 years ago I bought a protools to try and see the difference between them. I even couldn't work with it more than a couple weeks because it didn't even have bounce option for bouncing the tracks I had to open a track and record them .But as I said I always ask my self why after about 10-15 years being in market, sonar couldn't sit on the protools seat in the serious music industry.

As a user, I reported some problems to cakewalk and they replicated and approved them but never fixed them. For example I bought a v-studio 700 set. Master fader on vs-700 c doesn't like to work with sonar x3 and platinum on windows 8 and works randomly. I realized the others have the same problem, I posted here and called cakewalk and Roland. They were agreed but no body didn't want to be responsible for it.
Any way, we cant stop our business because cake walk some how wait for users to find the bugs. After I downloaded the new update I didn't know this bug is coming to my DAW and a day after when I had a recording with my client I ended up spend time to find out what is the problem and finally rolled back the update. it is so embarrassing front of your client to fix your Computer.

I think you may need to backup and realize nothing is ever perfect. You will live a life in disappointment if you think it is. Pro Tools and Logic have their own bugs. The only way out is for YOU to write the perfect software, with no bugs and never crashes. I can do things now in Sonar that left me frustrated, and I've been around since Dos as well. Platinum is the first version, with the help of Groove3, that I am  gaining knowledge and actually working on a recording. It's about half done and WAY beyond our expectations.

I could never get past the learning curve while distracted by a job. Now that I am retired and home all day, It's sinking in better.

Sorry REZA. Don't want to come across rude but it's a Disneyland perception. There are ideals and the is reality. Even airliners have bugs.

Note Cakewalk hardware are really badged Roland products and really nothing to do with Cakewalk. Any responsibility of support lies with Roland. Even if Cakewalk had some responsibility they are now owned by Gibson, the chances of Gibson wanting to support a Roland product is zero. Right or wrong that's the reality sadly.

> Any way, we cant stop our business because cake walk some how wait for users to find the bugs.

If you are that concerned you should roll back to X3 and come back in 9 to 12 months. It's generally best business practice to wait at least 12 months before you adopt any software inc OS's etc. You will save "embarrassment" with your clients that way. If you stick with Platinum maybe always wait a month behind, that way you get everybody else to beta test it first.

Yes I am totally agree with what ever you said. My point was something else . I don't mean that when a software comes to market must be without any bug. I understand it. I just compared and I want some one explain it why sonar is always one step behind the market. Don't get me wrong I really love sonar, thats why i always support it.

And I totally understand the frustration. I've been logging and validating bugs for years now on this product, and trying to get other peoples bugs validated... Apparently though I still don't know what I'm doing, it's always an uphill struggle and several unnecessary (often personal) barriers get placed in front of me on the way even when you do things by the book... C'est la vie
