MIDI Key Bindings not responding - Enabled is checked

This is my first time trying MIDI key bindings and I can't get it to work. I selected the note on the left and bind it to a function on the right, but nothing get triggered. I tried Transport|Stop and File|New. Enabled is checked and I verified the key with the piano roll view. What am I missing?

did you specify a MIDI shift key as well, and ensure your synth was communicating with Sonar? Also, good to verify that the octave you think you're pressing is the one Sonar is receiving

Yeah, I verified the octave against the Piano Roll view.

I just figured out it was the shift key. I didn't understand what that meant.

Is there a way to ditch the shift key?

You can assign the shift function to a controller instead of a key. The help file, under the index heading "Key Bindings", has some details on doing this. Most users will want some additional indicator other than just a MIDI key, so that you can continue to use the keyboard for sending MIDI notes as well as function commands.
