MIDI Stops Working all of a sudden

So. I search the forum and couldn't find a topic. So here's the deal. I got my MIDI keyboard hooked up via USB directly out the keyboard.
I play it but all of a sudden the MIDI in Sonar X3 stops responding. I'm assuming it's a glitch or something to do with the settings.
I'll just be playing for a while and Sonar will stop reading midi, unless I delete everything and make a new instrument.

Rather than a Sonar problem, this sounds like your Midi signal is getting interrupted. Check the following:

1) Your midi driver (if any is required) is up to date.
2) Your USB cable is good. Swap with another one to be sure.
3) Your USB connection is good. Check that both ends are securely plugged in and don't jiggle (overmuch).

Once the Midi signal is lost, Sonar won't go to any trouble to try and find it if it shows up again. That's just the way it is.

what exactly do you mean by "the MIDI in Sonar X3 stops responding"?

does it stop sending MIDI?  do the meters stop on the MIDI track?  did you lose sound on a softsynth tied to the output of that MIDI track?

I am on a cell so cannot see sigs/system specs, but another quick thing to check is that USB ports are not allowed to go idle from your O/S settings.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Meters stop on the MIDI track and my MIDI keyboard is on but just doesnt do anything unless I start over and make a new instrument.

I'm going to try this. For those who wonder it's under Control Panel > Power Options   |  USB Settings > USB Slective Suspend
Then set it to Disabled. Hope this works.

Yes, I forget that what mettelus said can absolutely cause this. The first thing I do is disable USB power saving in a new DAW (or in my current DAW's case, that's what Jim Roseberry did).

USB Cable is brand spankin new. I really think it's not the cable because I've switche between different ones in different setups so I'm going to try the USB suspend think. I thought it might have been my software settings being too low but really I want to be able to work with some fast response times so I can play it as I feel it, instead of planning it out.
