MIDI Sync problem

My last version of Sonar was 3.0 on an old XP desktop that died recently. I've been away from recording for a couple of years but now that I have some new songs I want to get back into it. So I bought a quad-core Toshiba "gaming" notebook with Win7 64 and Sonar X1 Studio. Lots to learn there. I just installed the c patch. I have two related questions. As one of many tests, I exported MIDI and "RealDrums" (audio) tracks from Band in a Box and imported to SONAR. When I play the MIDI on my external keyboard, it plays in sync with the audio drum track. When I switch to the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as the MIDI output device, the audio and rendered MIDI tracks are hopelessly out of sync. Some sort of delay or latency. I've tried aligning the tracks manually and I've looked for a place to adjust latency for the GS and can't find it. I changed the MIDI buffer to 700 ms per a post here, no effect. Any suggestions? Related question. On S3 I used to use a supplied synth to render my MIDI tracks. I think it was a Roland (maybe Edirol?) synth with a lot of basic instrument voices and it would pretty much play the right voices from the MIDI file just by assigning it to an audio track and routing all the MIDI tracks to it. That synth (I forget name) is 32 bit only and was not installed in the X1 64 bit installation. Is there an equivalent pre-loaded multi instrument synth for that role in the X1 synth set? I've just had this stuff a few days (laptop, UA-1G USB audio interface, and X1). Looks promising but also overwhelming! Thanks, Bruce

Onboard wavetable synths have notoriously bad latency. There's not much to be done about it, but their sound quality is general so bad it's not a great loss. They are not intended to be able to run in sync with anything.

The bundled multi-timbral GM synth you're looking for is TTS-1. It's been ported to x64 and still ships with X1. You might need to re-run the SONAR installer with the Custom option, and make sure the TTS-1 is checked (you can uncheck everything else that's already installed).

    SONAR Platinum x64, 2x MOTU 2408/PCIe-424  (24-bit, 48kHz)
    Win10, I7-6700K @ 4.0GHz, 24GB DDR4, 2TB HDD, 32GB SSD Cache, GeForce GTX 750Ti, 2x 24" 16:10 IPS Monitors
