MIDI drum plug-in

Anyone know of a MIDI drum plugin like the old Musiclab Slicy Drummer that will work in 64-bit Sonar?  I'm sure there's got to be a way to run it in 64-bit, since their DrumTools VST, which incorporates both it and Fill-in Drummer, will run in 64-bit, bit I can't figure it out.  I like the convenience of it when starting a new project - to be able to quickly access a variety of patterns while using the drum sampler of my choice (usually Battery 4).

Not sure if you're aware but Addictive Drums comes with lots of midi loops.

As Sander says, AD2 (depending on SONAR version) ships with SONAR and have lots of MIDI loops. So does Session Drummer. You could save as a template (with drum vsti), and use as start for new projects. (You probably know, so sorry if obvious, but) SONAR also have a MIDI library that defaults to Cakewalk Content\MIDI Library (again depending on SONAR version).
    All the best.

Thanks for the replies.  As I said, I'm really looking for a MIDI-something like Slicy Drummer that can play ANY drum sampler (Battery, Kontakt or Dimension Pro with Kits loaded) - or even software synths.  (I've "written" some interesting things playing drum MIDI patterns through pitched synths.)  My favorite drum kits are in Battery, so I need something to run it for me.

The nice thing about Slicy Drummer is it gives a good visual of what the pattern is going to be, the patterns are nicely categorized, etc.  The GUI is a little outdated, but...

I've always wondered how you are supposed to take a gigantic bundle of MIDI drum loops (I've bought quite a few) and figure out how to really sort through them and find something right for what you're working on.  Tips?

    Have you checked out
    http://www.toontrack.com/product/ezplayer-pro/ ?

EZplayer pro is a MIDI organizer, multi track arranger and format conversion tool all rolled into one nifty piece of software that you can plug into any VST, Audio Unit or RTAS compatible master application.
With it you can convert between mapping formats and collect all your MIDI clips in one convenient location, the EZplayer pro browser. You can use EZplayer pro to preview those MIDI clips with your favourite drum sampler and drag and drop them directly into your host to construct your tracks.

You also might want to check out MeldaProduction's MDrummer. The Small version is free. The Large version looks pricey, but I've gotta believe that it goes on sale from time to time. MP do good work for not a lot of moolah.

Geist is an excellent pattern based drum machine which can either host (and process) it's own samples on multilayered pads, or output MIDI to drive another drum VST. It's on sale now.

Jamstix is an amazing program which creates very expressive and realistix drum MIDI. I hook it up to Battery 4, AD, Geist and Tremor with great success. Most people use it for "real" drum styles but I use it mostly for electro/techno styles. You can give it a basic MIDI pattern to work on as a style and it will apply human like variations and expression to it. So for example if you have a straight 4 to the floor house pattern with a snare on the 2nd and 4th beats Jamstix will add flourishes, fills and all kinds of groovy accents according to how you tweak its "style brain."

The reason I had mentioned EZplayer Pro previously is OP had stated "I'm really looking for a MIDI-something like Slicy Drummer that can play ANY drum sampler (Battery, Kontakt or Dimension Pro with Kits loaded)"

Among other things EZPlayer is a tool you can use to convert to & from various Sampler/VST Drum synth MIDI formats.

    Thanks for that, Mr. TheSteven!

EZplayer Pro was one of the few apps/plugins that I thought had a reasonable list price, one that reflected its real value. I almost bought it at list. VERY glad I waited! The exchange rate for me, via PayPay, worked out to US$26.06...a bargain!

The installation instructions for SONAR are a bit incomplete, but I was up and running in just a couple of minutes, no problemo!

Nothing compares to Slicy/Fill in drummers.
they could take ANY midi drum map and work wonders with it, expexially the 'fill in'....it was pure Magic.
But MusicLab doesnt support it, yet their instruments are still based on that technology....If Only there was  64 bit midi wrapper.

Drum Tools (a MusicLab spin-off) works OK, but no mapping because you have to load the synth into DT...
    I've tinkered with other products...NOTHING comes close to Slicy/Fill in....RIP Slicy/fill in!!!

there may be a work around, using FL as a Vst or a rewire, and then using Slicy/Fill in inside of FL...I think that it still works on FL 32 bit, which wraps (via Jbridge) into a 64 compatible VSTi....

Jamstix will output midi to a drum sampler for you. You just make/choose a basic pattern and then let Jamstix add the fills, accents and feel. It works pretty well for me.

but its not hardly a replacement for slicy/fill in/drum tools.
I totally get what the OP is missing... I am missing the same thing.  I actually dug into MusicLab for not updating to 64 bit....They laughed me off of their site.....LOL
The mapping, triggering, instances was just crazy....The freehand tool was bananas, and made percussives awesome because you could manually give it a live feeling and save it very easily.
FWIW, I still use them in Sonar 32 bit.  And If I need to use it in a project, I dont have a problem doing the drums seperately...it takes a little off of the mix feel, but I can tweak the midi track once I get it back into Sonar 64 bit...

I know this thread is old, but I couldn't agree more about Slicydrummer and Fill-in drummer especially. There are several reasons why it was so great and nothing I've found replaces it.
    1.  You told it what measure number you wanted the fill to be in and programmed your drum pattern leaving where you wanted the fill to be blank, then set up a loop in Sonar and just start auditioning fills until you found the one you liked.
    2.  The fills where arranged in folders by type and complexity (there were TONS of them) and whether the fill was at the beginning of the measure, the end of the measure, or the whole measure.
    3. The fills were excellent and inventive and definitely sounded programmed by a real drummer or at least someone with a clear knowledge of how a real drummer approaches fills...such as having hi-hats and other cymbals incorporated into the fills and having various velocities on the notes just like a real player would.

Yes, the interface looked like a kid designed it, but who cares...it WORKED WELL, and enabled you to have very original and interesting fills quickly right in the places you wanted them.  I have NO IDEA why Musilab stopped supporting it and went to making guitar plugins exclusively???  WTH???

If anyone knows of an alternative for 64 bit or a way to get it to work in a 64 bit DAW I would love to hear it...???

EZ Player Pro might be promising, but I'm not seeing where you can audition fills in a specific measure in your arrangement like Fill-in Drummer could...that was the best feature of it!  Can anyone comment on their experiences with EZ Player Pro?

The ability to 'audition' fills at the beginning/middle/full/end of a measure of my choice would be phenomenal!

That's stuff I only dreamed of. There was a program that did this? Man did I miss out!

Yes Grem, it was fabulous...it makes absolutely no sense to me why Musiclab didn't keep with it or why someone else hasn't picked up the gauntlet and released something that does this. It was so easy to get interesting musical fills and now it's completely tedious...lame.

BTW...EZPlayer Pro doesn't do anything even remotely close to what you could do in Fill-In Drummer.

The old Fill-in drummer works perfectly even though it's very old...it just needs to be updated to work as a midi plugin in 64 bit or some other method or wrapper to get it to work in 64bit.  I've tried the mfx.dll wrapper that has been floating around for a few years but it doesn't work...

Found the Drumtools DEMO...doesn't work right. DAMMIT!  It was so much simpler and easier to work with it as a midi plugin instead of inserting it as a vst and then trying to get it to work correctly...plus it's the demo so it's gonna expire and Musiclab doesn't respond to any questions about it.  Nice job Musiclab.
