MIDI envelopes? Efficient ways to manipulate MIDI parameters....
Background: When I record Guitar Rig on an audio track, I record automation of the wah, pan, pitch, etc - which are drawn on the track in envelope form. Then I can manipulate the envelope line for the correct placement of the any combo of those parameters if I don't like what I did when I tracked, and add nodes where needed. Question: Trying to record a drum/sound fx track in Battery3 where I can manipulate the pitch. Now I can do this, but the recorded pitch data - I want to manipulate the picth like the envelope in the background statement above and not have to draw in the PRV ...which doesn't seem as friendly to me and unable to draw lines the same way. That way I could add nodes and work linearly ...literally. :) Am I missing something? What is the most efficient way to accomplish this goal?

You should be able to assign knobs in the Synth Rack to the Battery 3 parameters and then record automation that way. Or you can also convert PRV controller data to envelopes by selecting the MIDI track in the Track view and choosing Clips > Convert MIDI Controllers to Envelopes in the Track view menu. Scott, I did assign the pitch parameter to my Akai MPK49 (either the slider or knobs works). I DID NOT try converting the controller data to envelopes, that sounds like what I want to do. I will try that tonight. I just think i can be a bit more precise with my editing with an envelope than PRV. Thanks Scott!

Ok. So I tried this and was not successful to convert the pitch data to an envelope. Not sure what ID10T error I am making. Mainly, where to FIND the Clips > Convert MIDI Controllers to Envelopes in the Track view menu (I know this is 8.5 - but I had the same issue in X1, and still am more comfortable in 8.5). Second, if I separate MIDI layers, the pitch data looks like a broken up mountain and the gong sound a line ...in the pic below I recorded both at the same time: I highlight and went to Edit>Convert MIDI to shaped, but could not find just Clips. I assume the selection has to be selected, which I did. I unarmed the track. What I want it is to look like this GR4 highlighted track: Sorry to be thick-headed But another step by step is needed.

In the track view, select the track/clip you want to work with. Then go to the drop down in the Clips menu and at the very bottom is "Convert Midi controllers to envelopes". A box will then come up where you can select what you want to convert. Pitch is usually controlled by the Type "Wheel" in the drop down box on the left that says control. For other controllers put in the number of the CC (eg 11 for expression) and it should convert what ever automation/control functions you had recorded for that clip/track.

Ok, only in X1 is the "Clips" menu(the ID10T error) ...I wonder what the 8.5 equivalent is? Is "convert midi controller envelopes to shapes" the one? So... I record the gong in one pass, the automation (the mountain range looking deal) in another pass and show layers, try to convert to an linear envelope - and it doesn't work. I look at the automated details and it says: CC12, Channel 1, so that is what I enter for the envelope - and an envelope shows up(the mountain disappears) ...it just doesn't do anything. Suggestions?
