MIDI input delay

Sorry for the simplistic question, but the solution is eluding me. I'm using a Kurzweil k2000 as my input keyboard to X1, going through a Fireface 400. When I set any softsynth to "echo" and play it, it's fine. But as soon I start the sequence playing--let alone recording--I get a clearly audible delay that sounds like upwards of 250 ms or more. Just installed latest fireface driver. Problem was going on when I was using a Roland D-50, but I figured it was the D-50's fault. Related point: I tried copying midi tracks that were originally assigned to the K2000 to a VB3 track, but they don't play back. Read and write caching both selected, playback and recording buffers both set to 512. Any Ideas why not and how I might fix this? (then I wouldn't have to play the parts in again) Thanks for all help. By the way, how do I put carriage returns in my posts? I hit enter when I want a new paragraph, but when I post it, it turns into one big block of type.
