MIDI instrument defintion for my Yamaha keyboard is not saved between sessions

My Yamaha PSR - 290 keyboard is connected to the MIDI output port of my Gina 3G interface. In preferences, MIDI - Instruments, I assign all channels for that output to the Yamaha XG definition. I check the box for "Save Changes for Next Session." For the rest of that session, the bank and patch names for Yamaha XG show up correctly in the drop-down lists for tracks using that MIDI output. But when the project is closed and then reopened later, the MIDI output for the Gina port is reassigned to "SoundFont Device". No matter what instrument definition I assign to that output, it always reverts to "SoundFont Device" when the project is closed and reopened. Even though "Save Changes for Next Session" is checked, I cannot find any way to make it remember the instrument assignment between sessions. Has anyone else run into this problem, and is there a work around, other than reassigning the instrument definition manually everytime I reopen the project?

I'm running 32-bit Sonar X2a producer under the Win7-64 bit OS.

You need to have this done in the Preferences, MIDI, Instruments.

That's what I'm doing. I'm using Preferences, MIDI, Instruments to assign the Yamaha XG definition to the MIDI output connected to my keyboard, but when I reopen the project, that output always goes back to SoundFont Device. Sonar doesn't remember the Yamaha XG assignment, even though I've checked the box to Save Changes for Next Session.

The setting is global not project specific. If you change it in another project and then open the project with the external synth it will show the last assignment made.

I am not changing the assignment in another project. If I assign it to Yamaha XG, close and then immediately reopen the same project, it still sets it back to SoundFont Device. I can't figure out why it keeps forcing that assignment.

I don't understand the phrase "sets it back to SoundFont Device". If you mean that when you open the project instead of seeing midi ch 1 assigned to "Yamaha XG" where you left it you now see it assigned to "SoundFont Device" then I'm guessing tech support is probably your best bet to solve this. It is working as expected here. I have no other suggestions. Maybe someone else has run into this and will post.

    edit...
just out of curiosity you might try highlighting all 16 channels and assigning them to "Yamaha XG" and then close and reopen sonar to see if all 16 now are assigned to "SoundFont Device".
