MIDI mapping help

I have an Alesis ControlPad.  I am triggering the SI-Drum Kit with the ControlPad successfully, but I want to be able assign each drum to a separate track - and be able to play the ControlPad live.

The choice of Inputs I am given are:  All Inputs (OMNI, MIDI Ch 1, 2...16), ControlPad (OMNI, MIDI Ch 1, 2...16), MIDIIN2 ControlPad (OMNI, MIDI Ch 1, 2...16), SI-Drumkit (OMNI, MIDI Ch 1, 2...16).

I have already assigned each pad on the ControlPad to a different MIDI channel.

I've experimented around with different settings in X1 and have not had any success.

You can't do that. Most drum synths respond to a single MIDI channel and use different MIDI notes to trigger the different drum sounds.

But even with that scenario, you should still be able to play the kit live with your ControlPad. Just set each pad on the ControlPad to the same channel but with a different note on each pad.

Then record your performance into a single MIDI track. If you want to split that track up later into multiple tracks, you can do that using CAL. Choose Process > Run CAL and open the file called Split Note to Tracks.cal and then follow the prompts.

    Hi Scott,

    Thank you for the explanation.

I tried using CAL and need some more help regarding how to use it.  It asks for the Destination Channel & Destination Port.  I tried different numbers, but keep getting errors.  Can you let me know what these are supposed to be?

    Thanks
