MIDI problem with Sonar X3 and Korg M3

Hi, have installed latest Korg M3 USB drivers and have installed .ins files and can select Korg sounds as required and it works fine BUT only on the first MIDI channel.
I have mapped each channel to go to the Korg MIDI table but on the channel itself I cannot select anything other than Korg-1 then the sound required. If I try Korg-2 nothing comes out of the keyboard.
Have tried many different things including different global midi settings in the Korg, a different USB cable, older Korg drivers, different INS files and even the default files rather than the INS table. Nothing changes.

Any ideas?

In Preferences > MIDI > Instruments, did you assign all the channels of the port to the Korg instrument definition? After doing that, you'll also need to set a forced Output channel on the MIDI track in order for SONAR to know which channel to send the patch changes on (and MIDI note/controller events as well, unless you're changing the output channel of the Korg when recording data intended for different channels).

If you're not getting a response from the Korg on other channels at that point, then the Korg is likely not in the correct mode for multi-timbral performance. But I don't know Korg set up conventions off the top of my head, so I can't easily help you with that.

    Really appreciate the reply.

By default once selecting the Korg M3 midi driver all 16 channels default to 'default' instrument definition. This is before installing the mapping tables for easier names. This default option allows to select korg instrument numbers and has the same issue before importing the .ins file. Therefore I don't think this is the issue.

When you say set a forced output channel on the MIDI track are you referring to assigning the Output, channel, bank and patch? If so then yes these are assigned but it only works if I assign to channel 1 and therefore only get one sound.

As for the Korg I read the manual and have found that there is a SEQ mode for external multi-timbral control so I am going to try that this eve and see if that resolves. Will let you know.

I sounds like you have SONAR set up correctly. I expect that getting the Korg in the SEQ mode will do the trick.
