MIDI reassigning using different port boxes

Can someone help with this issue? I am running Sonar Prod. Expan on a base unit using a MIDIsport 2x4 port box and laptop (for live gigs) using a MIDIsport 8x8 box. Everytime I play a song on the laptop, created on the base unit, it needs me to reassign the ports. Sonar seems to store the MIDI assignments in the song. This didn't happen in older version. I can't reassign on every song live. Any suggestions?

hrm that's been happening here too.  the only solution i've found is to always open the project with the same controllers plugged into the same ports and never ever open with no controllers plugged in.
