MIDI to USB and/or Emagic MT 4

I just got a few midi to usb adapters, none have worked with win10, win8.1 nor XP. I have older ones that work.
I got these new ones from two different sellers on eBay.
Has anyone else has this happen recently and is there a way to get them to work?

also I just pulled out my old emagic mt 4 interface. BUT the drivers won't install on win8.1.
Seems they have drivers for win98.... I know I used it with XP.
Anyone have this issuse and got the emagic to work with win7 - 10?

thanks!

Anything that was designed pre-Win XP will likely not work with Win 7 or later.  I'd stay away from the really cheap ones on Amazon.  As far as established names, MOTU is probably your best bet.  This one also looks okay, based on the reviews:

I'm still on Win 8.1, and I've had rock-solid performance with the Roland/Edirol line (UM-series).  All models but their 1 in-1 out have been discontinued, but if you're on Win 7/8.1 it's worth keeping an eye out for any of the UM series on Ebay.
