MIDIgnorant

I am a complete noob to MIDI, and I have spent much time reading, watching tutorials, forum searching, and of course, playing around in an attempt to setup my MIDI controller for Sonar DAW control. I have had partial success, however being new to this I believe I am missing something.

Current setup is a Novation Impulse61 Keyboard Controller connected to a Steinberg UR44 via MIDI cable. I have successfully got the "playing" portion working fine, but the "control" portion, not so much.

I have tried both the ACT learning module, with which I have successfully mapped my 8 pan rotaries and 8 track volume faders, as well as the Master Bus volume on the 9th fader. I have also been able to map some of the 8 button assignments for mute/Solo/Arm. I am unable to get the transport controls functioning, and do not see a way to do so.

My next step upon reading was to utilize the Cakewalk Generic Template, which allowed me to map my Transports, and get a few buttons working on a single track, but have not figured out how to replicate what I achieved above with ACT. I have had both of them loaded, but this seems wrong as things partially work haha..

At first I thought both the Template and the ACT controller both worked on the same settings file, but found two files in different sub-directories. Opening them to view appears useless as they are not readable with standard text editors.

I am a little unsure of how to proceed. To be honest, I'm stumped. Any help, pointers, links or smirks are accepted and appreciated.
