MIXCRAFT? anyone?

Not much being said about it here. I have it and like it. For a simple DAW it does a lot of nice things.

The 1st major CON I just discovered today. When you go to the Library and pick on one of the hundreds of samples, you're actually downloading them from their server. The sounds aren't on your computer. Since mine is currently offline I can't access any of the samples. Not liking that at all.

I was trying the demo when news of the Samplitude deal hit. I was liking it, too, because it was easy to use, but Samplitude seemed/seems more robust, and after I bought Samplitude I was out of money. Might still try to get in on the crossgrade.

I've been trying the lot and Samplitude seemed nice but kept acting strangely on my system. I settled with Mixcraft and Studio One 3.

No sends on the busses eliminated Mixcraft from my enquiries.

No but it has 4 different kinds of tracks...

    1. Normal tracks - route to Send tracks, SubMix tracks, Output busses, or Master output.
Has FXs, 3 band EQ, MSR, Sends

    2. Send tracks - route to Output busses or Master output.
        Reside in Master section.
Has FXs, 3 band EQ, MS, no R, no Sends

    3. Output busses - route to any hardware sound device, mono and stereo.
        Reside in Master section.
Has FXs, 3 band EQ, no MSR, no Sends

    4. SubMix tracks - route to other SubMix tracks, Output busses, or Master output.
Reside in track section. Route as many tracks to them as you want.
Act like Sub Group channels on hardware decks.
Has FXs, 3 band EQ, no MSR, no Sends

    5. Master output - route to only one hardware source set in Preferences.
Has FXs, 3 band EQ, no MSR, no Sends

I will be getting Mixcraft and Reaper. Mixcraft does just about everything I need, with the exception of Ripple Editing. Right now that's very important to me. I love that it's very easy to work with and quite powerful. For my basic needs it's perfect. Reaper will be my go to for voice over editing simply because it has that feature.

I'm not abandoning Sonar yet, but the way they've handled this shutdown makes me want to. Too quiet for too long and no sign that Sonar will ever be un-tethered from computers that could go at any time. Kind of makes me feel like a chump to still tell people about how great Sonar is.

I feel the same way. It's not that they are closing shop, but how they did it and not having the codes to
authorize the software offline like before. I'm really at this point a hobbyist. I took advantage of the Tracktion offer for half off the half off sale price. Really digging the program.

I also took advantage of the Samplitude offer and liking what it can do with it's object oriented design.
The Spectral editor is really cool and burn a CD master right from the program. Also the staff view isn't
    to bad (ha ha ha)

Mixcraft would of never been on my radar if it wasn't for them posting the crossgrade offer here.
I have watched the videos and the performance panel is perfect for some projects I have on the back

Doesn't work for me, as you can only have one instrument in score view. Also, I recall that it was unstable while demoing an earlier version, though that may have been fixed,

I'm hovering on the brink of trying Mixcraft.
    - Are there any hotkeys in Mixcraft or the ability to make shortcuts or tool icons?
For example, I notice on one of the YT videos that to change a track colour you have to right click on the Track header left), click Properties, click Colour.
    - Is there an equivalent to Sonar's Shift F to view the whole project?

    Thanks.

Funny thing was I saw the crossgrade offer and downloaded Mixbus by mistake :) I eneded up purchasing Mix bus for $30 for no other reason than it was Cheap.
I then downloaded the demo for Mixcraft and played around creating a midi only project. I'll say one thing is the default GM player is real nice. I think it sounds better than TTS-1 for sure. I also liked the note names in the PRV inside each note. I made a whole song without reading the manual which is one way I like to try stuff. So I give it a thumbs up, but there was no point waisting $100 or what ever the offer was as until Sonar dies it would just sit in limbo and I wouldn't be using it. Also is it was like using X3 Studio which I already own, so I filled it away as a possible DAW 6 years from now.

Isn't that what you were asking?  Without buying the boxed version, I don't know where else you'd expect to get them (except from online).

Anyway, apparently MC does do some downloading in the background.  Do you have the regular or Pro Studio version of MC8?  I have MC8 Pro Studio and the samples folder is 640MB... So I'm guessing you either have a "lower" version, or you will have to manually download all of the groups to get the rest.

BTW, referring to it as MC8 makes me think of Music Creator.

I got it and like it a lot as it is almost a 64bit Project 5v2-- complete with ability to integrate third party audio editor and slighty gimpy way to create fade ins/fade outs.

Miss having the flyout Quadcurve on every track though and can't see a way to make track templates complete with third party plugs to remedy this

I bought Mixcraft and really like it. It's quite comfortable but it takes a bit of work to learn their way of doing things. So far most of the Sonar functions I need are there, with the exception of Ripple Edit. Most of those familiar features have a different set of commands than Sonar but you get used to it.

I also bought Reaper for those times when I need all the bells and whistles. By far this is most flexible DAW out there in terms of configuration. You can make it look and feel like a bunch of different DAW's. Very deep and very powerful.
