MOTU 2408 mk3 AudioWire Cable -- Is it a 1394 Cable?

Is the cable which connects the MOTU 2408 mk3 to the 424 PCIe card a regular 1394 cable? Or is it some kind of proprietary cable?

Thanks,
Mahlon

I believe its standard Firewire cable... (just like the RME PCI HDSP interfaces)

Firewire cable works yes. It doesnt work the same as firewire I dont believe, but a regular firewire cable is what is used.

Right, it's a proprietary PCI card/format... (same situation as the RME HDSP PCI/e units)

Thanks for the answers. Jim, just to be clear...so when you say, 'right', do you mean that I could use a regular firewire 1394 cable and get the same results as with MOTU's cable? You're just saying that the proprietary part is the PCIe card format?

yes same results. The cable is the same construction as a firewire cable. My friend has 3 of these setups and he uses a firewire cable.

    Hi Mahlon,

    What Lance just said...
Yes, the 1394 cable will work fine. (MOTU's cable is a 1394 cable.)

The MOTU PCI card isn't a standard FW controller (its proprietary)... but the cable is standard 1394

Orr....you could always buy the cable from MOTU for like $80.

LOL...I think that's what they used to charge, eh?

Thanks for the answers, guys. I bought a new cable (locally), and my 2408 is working again. I was surprised, though, to find out that MOTUs hardware carries only a 90 day warranty. This seems pretty short to me.

I have a friend who sold high end cameras for years. He said you could tell who had the best cameras by the length of their warrantee period.

The short ones were the best. In other words, if the camera came with a long warrantee, you were GUARANTEED to have to fight the company to try to fix what was obviously a manufacturer's defect, while the shorter-warrantee cameras lasted forever.

I don't know if it translates to our gear, but it seems to hold true in cars! (Anyone here own a Hyundai? How bout a Kia?)
