the soundcard itself will have no bearing whatsoever on the MIDI I/O - they don't work together, so any MIDI I/O will work fine, regardless of the soundcard.

there are problems, however, with some MIDI USB devices with certain keyboards.  I have helped people who have problems on the boards sometimes with certain combinations of MIDI/USB and keyboards.  for example, some of the cheaper yamaha models (PSR's) don't like the M-audio UNO (even tho I had a PSR-293 which worked fine with the UNO).

but for the most part, any MIDI/USB cable or multiple MIDI device will work fine.

I have a pair of 896HD mkII units for audio.

I use a Korg PadKontrol as my MIDI connection via USB.
I also use an Alesis Edrum MIDI-USB drum kit.

Next time around I want to get something that has better timing.

I also have a MOTU traveler with MIDI I/O but I no longer use it on my main DAW becaues I have the pair of 896HD on that.... it seems to have great MIDI timing.

I want something that tight on my next DAW.

    best regards,
    mike

If you're running newer MIDI gear, you may not need a dedicated MIDI interface.
Most new gear has USB ports for MIDI connection.

If you need dedicated MIDI ports, the units from MOTU, M-audio, and Roland all work fine.

Thanks guys for the info. I did in fact, purchase a 896hd from flea bay last night. Hope all works out ok when it arrives. Will be ordering a Siig f/w card tomorrow and....crossing my fingers. Thanks again for the support.
