MOTU I/O question.

Id like to get 24 channels out of my pc and into the summing box or mixer or whatever. I was hoping to use a MOTU 24AO. It doesnt have any inputs other than ADAT.

I currently have a MOTU Ultralite Mk3 which does not have ADAT out. I only have USB on the PC and I cannot find anything that would suggest I could run these together in Sonar other than to track with the Ultralite and mix with the 24AO.

Or should I just buy the new Ultralite which has the adat out to use with the AO?

Im just trying to keep the outlay down if possible. Ive actually thought about buying and older interface with adat outs on the cheap from Ebay.

the MOTU 24 AO is expensive for what it provides. you should reconsider your setup.

there is also a newer cheaper MOTU unit with 4 banks of ADATA IO: http://motu.com/products/avb/lp32/specs.html

Take a look at the MOTU 24io vs. the ao model. It has the PC connection in from a PCIe-424, assuming you have a free PCIe slot, and 24 analog TRS 1/4" Balanced outputs. If you go this route, be sure to get three balanced TRS snakes (if you want to use all 24 output channels).

Is the problem of the multiple USB interfaces a Sonar issue? or is it a MOTU issue? According to the website, you should be able to hook multiple Motu USB devices to a USB hub for multiple I/O. Or is there an issue at all? I'd like to be able to mix and match USB devices.

    [From the MOTU website:
    http://motu.com/products/motuaudio/ultralite-mk3/exp-drivers.html
Expansion & driversExpand your UltraLite-mk3 Hybrid system and run it with all your favorite audio software.

Adding more I/O to your UltraLite-mk3 Hybrid system

As with other MOTU interfaces, the UltraLite-mk3 Hybrid can be expanded by connecting additional MOTU FireWire or USB2 audio interfaces via a standard FireWire or USB2 hub.]

So I have an Ultralite Mk3 right now and want to add another interface. Maybe a 828mk3 or 8 pre. The thing is the I/O on the Ultralite Mk3 only has spdif digital and no adat. My PC only has USB and I dont wan to add a firewire card or whatever.
