MOTU Users

I am looking at the MOTU interfaces. Of course they seem to be well liked and feature rich. Any experienced users out there that can comments.

Thanks !

Long-time MOTU user here.  Both good and bad to report.

Customer service can be sketchy.  Was way worse years ago, especially for PC users.  Seems to be better the last couple of times I've had to contact them.

I've used both the 2408 and the 24io a lot.  Never had either one go defective.  Drivers have always been sketchy....if you find one that works with Sonar, stick with it.  I've found that upgrading drivers just because they're "new" is a bad idea.  In fact, I'm currently using the driver from about 6 years ago after trying the "new" one a couple of years ago - which caused immediate crashes on my system.

As with Reece, I'd be happy to discuss if you have further questions.

I had a MOTU Traveler  and it worked great with just about everything. I liked the I/O options on that particular unit.

I did have a less than good experience with their service dept. when I had an issue with my unit after using it for over 5 years. They finally cleared things up for me but I had to submit multiple service orders to get their attention.......I seemed to have fell through the cracks and was forgotten by them. The whole time I'm thinking that they were just busy and months went by. I had to get a little more persuasive on my end to finally make things happen the way they should have the first time..........this is not good service.

MOTU never adopted the Jetpll technology adopted by many interface manufacturers . There is a lot of back and forth as to if the difference can audibly be heard. The new technology reduces jitter by a lot so this was important to me. The inputs MOTU uses are nothing much more different than what most have used for years but there are better out there for the same $$. I would consider them to be middle of the road in terms of quality.

Happy user here on the latest drivers with no problems whatsoever.

The converters on the 2408's are as good as the i88x I had previously but not quite as good as the ADI8-DS or Kronauer I had before that.

The converters on the 1296 are on par with the Kronauer but still not quite up to the ADI8-DS standard IMHO.
