MP3 encoder

Hello
Why is the LAME MP3 encoder in Audio Creator so slow compared to competing products also using the same MP3 encoder? Ripping seems to be very efficient but the subsequent conversion to MP3 is so slow that it makes the product almost unusable for this purpose.
