MSR - soloing midi audio channel outputs go BOOM-BOOM!
OK, here goes...
Am working on a multi-track midi project, using Garritan GPO4, 64 bit. The nice thing about GPO is that, for each instance of ARIA, you can have up to 16 instruments, you can assign any midi channel to any instrument (including ones already used - useful for multi-instrument ensembles), and you can assign any one of 16 stereo audio channels to each instrument (including channels already used - you can bus one or more instruments to the same audio channel).
So I have pretty much close to a full orchestra, etc.
Woodwind section setup - i.e.
- two Flutes midi 1 audio 1/2
- two Oboes midi 2 audio 3/4
- English horn midi 3 audio 5/6
- two Bf Clarinets midi 4 audio 7/8
- Bass Clarinet midi 5 audio 7/8
- two Bassoons midi 6 audio 9/10
All of these are using the same synth instance, ARIA 1, and are all placed in a track folder named Woodwinds (midi).
There are corresponding audio channel tracks for the above...
- Flutes ARIA 1 1/2 Woodwinds (bus)
- Oboes ARIA 1 3/4 Woodwinds (bus)
- English Horn ARIA 1 5/6 Woodwinds (bus)
- Clarinets ARIA 1 7/8 Woodwinds (bus)
- Bassoons ARIA 1 9/10 Woodwinds (bus)
The Woodwinds bus goes to a Master bus and from there to the mains.
It might seem like a lot of work, but having the separate audio outputs for different instrument groups allows for finer volume control than using midi volume.
Here's the payload you've been waiting for - If I SOLO the
audio channel for the flutes, i.e.,
all of the instruments on the
same synth instance get soloed. But wait -
it get's better! Only the 'flutes'
audio channel is soloed, but you can hear
all of the instruments on the
same synth AND they all move 'flutes' meter - they do not move their own meters.
Now, I don't know about you, but THAT AIN'T NATURAL....
