MY EXPERIMENT

Yeah... I know what your thinking.... what now... more country?

uhhhhh .... no.  try ..... smooth with a hip hop beat....

So, I was helping a new user with a question on Studio instruments. And after telling him to simply drag the loops and samples in to a track.... I decided to play around a bit ....since I rarely ever use SI.... I decided to create a song using ONLY samples and loops found in X1.

I did (in all honesty) use Sound center with a simple whole and half note lead line with an arpagiated synth patch..... something that could easily have been moused in with little effort.

So here it is>>> http://www.soundclick.com...84&songID=11450431

Enjoy.

So for all the non-musicians here.....I prove that it is totally possible to make music with Sonar..... using only the built in stuff.

I pulled samples from the song parts and from the individual loops sections....even venturing into folders named HIP HOP and House Trance in search of the perfect chord.

If you want to comment... feel free.... this is not a song for any purpose other than what is already stated.   A total of 8 tracks.

Hum, well I was thinking "yeah! more country!" (likes country...)

When I heard this instead? A small part of me died inside :-( It would be like Obama restoring some of our liberty? I mean, one comes to expect certain things from certain people (except Jim Yoyo...) And from you? Well, GIVE ME MY COUNTRY AND COUNTRY ROCK!

Herb, you need to try a fusion thang? You could write a country song about britches and hoes? Except the hoes would be like real hoes? That you use in the garden? And you're wearing your old britches?

Robbie ,  Lynn, DK,  Rimshot,  Kev,  thanks....

Janet.... yeah you would.... it was easy as all get out...

Hoes and britches..... Robby... let me tell you this.... You would have fit in very well with a house band I was in for about 2.5 years.

I walked into the dressing room between sets, and the bass player....Steve and the drummer Jeoff were talking..... so I set down, and this was the conversation.

Jeoff: So today I was out checking out the garden and I saw this big old black snake in the tomato plants

Steve: Wow man.... was it big?

Jeoff: Yeah it was....scared the S&%t outta me.

    Steve: what did you do?

Jeoff: I got my hoe and went out to get that snake, and when I got to the snake it was mad cause it bit my hoe.

Steve (without batting an eye or a smile)  did you carry her to the doctor?

    That was pretty cool.

Thanks again for helping me on the other thread with my scotoma on the drag & drop SI drums.  Your experiment really indicates the scope, and effective use, of the soft synths that come now come standard with MC.

Scotty; yeah it's nice to get outside the genre room once in a while.

Radio: yeah, come to think of it and listening... it is something that you could have easily composed.

Whittaker: glad to help... hope you got it all going.  This tune is 7 tracks of drug in samples simply stacked and arranged.

there is one synth: cakewalk Sound Center... it is the first arppagiated synth that you hear in the beginning and the last thing out in the end..... I did use my keyboard to play it, but I played whole and half notes so that it would simulate what someone could easily do with a mouse and no musical keyboard to make music with X1.

It was simply an experiment to see what I could do with the stuff that comes stock "in the box" without using any musical instruments.  I think it turned out well.

It's actually #3 in it's soundclick sub category today.... go figure.

Daryl, the whole idea with this was to use no live instruments....samples for the most part and a synth part that could be moused in

Maybe the next one like this will be a hybrid.

It's kind of fun to step out of the box every now and then, isn't it?
As you noted, something like this can be done quite easily with the tools we have available, and I hope it inspires new users to try some things.
This ended up being a fairly tasty experiment.

Nice, Herb. Good movement, solid chord progressions and nice changes throughout to keep it interesting, especially around 1:05. Loops can be fun and you did a good job with them.
