MY NEW PIANO SONG
Hey I'm back with all new changes to my song called " TEARS FOR YOU " . I completely replayed all the piano tracks recorded for this song playing them slightly different and correcting some noticable flaws in my playing of those piano sections . http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11961982&q=hi&newref=1 As for the mix I also completely remixed everything , I'm 100% happy with this remix now and have no plans to make any addition changes with the mix I have now . I have checked it and rechecked it and balance out my pad tracks to bend in nicely with my piano recorded tracks . This is my final version and post for this song , hope some of you enjoy the music and the piano tracks I replayed in this piece of music I created . Enjoy and thanks for listening again - James

This sounds 100 percent better then the last mix. I can hear everything evenly. The drums are clearer and I can hear what the piano is doing. Great Job Night Fox

Very nice song and recording James! Big improvement. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'd like the piano to be about a dB louder in the mix. I like my "leaders" to lead and be up front in a mix, whether it's a vocal, a piano, or a digeridoo...LOL Other than that tiny crit... 2 thumbs up!!!

syndrell is a spammer.... I do like this song version better, much better.... nothing sticks out at me as being off kilter with this.... it was worth the time to redo the tracks. I would pull that opening synth string pad down several db but that is the only nit I have with this version, more to the level of the pad after the cymbal crash.... I like to build a song more as it goes along....to gently but constantly increase the energy level.....start out simple and build it. Use tension and release through out to achieve that emotional connection to the listener. Well done, much better!

James, you hit the nail on the head with this mix. It sounds clear and lush in my room. I love the melody and the chord change near the end of the song. This is very sophisticated arranging. Well done, my friend.

tbosco Very nice song and recording James! Big improvement. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'd like the piano to be about a dB louder in the mix. Thanks for the comments , to be honest with you I worked with the mix as you suggested and for some reason the piano synth I'm using doesn't sound as good when I back off with my back up pad synth track . I went round and round trying different volume levels in each track and honestly this mix is as good as I can get it so it all my tracks sound balance . Thanks , I'm going to work on writing some lyrics for this music and then vocals and see where I stand after doing that . maybe then the piano track might have to be raised in the mix . Cheers -James Guitarhacker I do like this song version better, much better.... nothing sticks out at me as being off kilter with this.... it was worth the time to redo the tracks. Well done, much better! Thanks Herb , right now I'm going to stick with this mix and work on writing some lyrics and then vocals and see where I'm at after I add all that in my mix . Right now I think I have a pretty good mix as good as I can get it to sound , I have tried what you suggested and keep going back to the level I have now with my pad track that supports my piano track . Thanks again Herb - James Lynn James, you hit the nail on the head with this mix. It sounds clear and lush in my room. I love the melody and the chord change near the end of the song. Thanks Lynn for all the listen in the past weeks and your comments on this new updated version , time to work on writing some lyrics and see I can take this a step higher with lyrics and vocals . Maybe it's just me (could be), but the piano seems to have been "banged on" and the crash was way too loud (from a guy who has trouble hearing above 6K ) I would love to hear this done way more laid back. It feels way to aggressive. But hey, what do I know?

You don't handle criticism well. It is not what is being criticised it is how you handle it that is more important. You are starting to sound like Ben. I sort of agree with Bapu here. The mix is not good at all. Most of the other instruments are too loud. The crash is very loud. (Crash cymbals can be amazingly low level in a mix and still be heard. Get into that zone instead.) Not sure about the banging on thing though. As it is a VST (or synth) I can sort of understand it because it is hard to make VST's sound as dynamic as the real thing (unless it is a very expensive VST's that is) I am sure you played with a nice touch but it does not always sound that way. It is the synth or VST that is doing it. Most synths or VST's don't have the range of touch in the mid range like the real thing does. What synth or VST were you using? This is probably a situation where a real piano would have sounded very nice. What synths do you own. Maybe there is a better piano sound in another instrument you may have. When doing a mix like this you need to start with the piano not everything else and that is how it sounds to me. You have got everything in and then tried to fit the piano in. Not the way to go. Get the piano sound happening first and right up front and then blend other things in behind slowly. Listen down low on a small mono speaker and you will really hear what is going on. The piano almost disappears when I do that on your mix. It might be a good idea to listen to other commercial artists who are doing this type of music and get a feel for the mix. When I listen to albums like that I have no problems hearing the piano well but in your mix it gets lost at times and other stuff is overpowering it and crowding it.

Jeff Evans You don't handle criticism well. It is not what is being criticised it is how you handle it that is more important. LOL I disagree sorry ! I think everything sounds as good as its going to get with what I'm using as a DAW . I'm not using a 64 Bit DAW like Sonar X1 or Sonar X2 I'm using a 32 bit Project 5 DAW and yes I do handle criticism fairly well most of the time . I do agree with you maybe the mix could be better , I'm not a professional at mixing so i don't claim to be an expert when mixing music I do my best . As for the drum track , fills and cymbals I turned me way down from where they were in my first posted version . My desktop music monitors are not $500.00 or more music monitors I only paid $120.00 for them new from SweetWater but they do sound good when mixing music for their size . Its funny this song and mix sounded great to many who recently commented on this new posted version and now suddenly I get you two members who are totally trashing everything . I'm sorry I'm not buying your comments , most of the recent comments have been good . Hey if you didn't like the song , maybe me well thats life on the forum . Not everyone is going to like my music , I happen to like my song the way it is right now and the way I mixed it and most of all the way I played it too ! No reason to reply , I'm not going back and redoing everything like your hoping I'll do it sounds good just the way it is right now ! James

I do like the piece, the melody and the overall tune for sure. I am not commenting on that, only certain aspects of the production values. The cheap monitors explain a lot. They may not be giving you a very accurate picture of what is happening.

They may not be giving you a very accurate picture of what is happening. Maybe your right maybe I do need some more expensive monitors but with me being on a fixed monthly income money is tight . Right now I'm trying to buy the last two items I need to complete my new computer build Windows 7 Professional and a new hard drive . Windows 7 Profession next week and then my new hard drive first week in Dec . After the new computer is built I will be able to save up for Sonar X 2 , it will be fast enough to run that 64 bit DAW . When my wife had her heart attack and operation three years ago money has been so tight , its taken me a year to buy all the parts needed buying parts to build my new upgraded PC and I'm almost there . I might mess with it some more the mix and see if theres anything else I can do to make it sound better then it is right now we'll see . James

Hey James, your coming along. I see your having a bit of a tiff with Jeff Evan's don't worry I've had tiffs with him he's a bit of a no it all. The top end of the track is a little bright, maybe roll off at around 12khz the crash and I would back the reverb off slighty it's a bit shiny which is making it sound too plastic. But keep going your coming along. Peace Ben

PS Sometimes just take the criticism on the chin don't let it get to you. The crash is a bit a loud like Bapu has said but on saying that, I think it just needs a bit of EQ and it will be fixed. Peace Ben
