Mac OSX support for V-Studio 700?...Wow!

This is awesome news! I've been secretly hoping for this for quite a while. I even bought a V-Studio 100 a while back mainly for its Mac OSX support. Now I won't have to hook/unhook up the VS-100 every time I boot into Mac OS.

I may open a can of worms here, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Cakewalk may be working on some type of DAW product for MacOS. That is the only logical explanation for their increasing hardware support on the Mac platform. Right now just about ALL of their products are cross-platform compatible except SONAR, so it only makes sense that something DAW-related will come eventually.

I'm sure they know that audio recording on PCs is still pretty much seen as something for hobbyist in the recording industry. This is despite the fact that its being done successfully by many pros/semi-pros. The reality is that no MAJOR artist/producer has ever endorsed SONAR and I think the only reason for it is that its not available on the Mac platform

As it stands SONAR is the only major DAW package that is PC-only. I honestly have a feeling that this will be changing shortly...Remember, you heard it here first. ;-)

You can build an awesome Hackentosh for a fraction of the cost.  But why?  Windows 7 is pretty solid.

The problem with not running MacOS and being a recording professional is that eventually you'll come across someone that is using a Mac-based DAW. If you ever need to go into a major studio (or just about any pro-level studio) , you will encounter MacOS-based computers. I think it helps to stay knowledgeable on as much gear/software as you can out there.

You never know when you may run into a job that you could have had if only you could load Mac-based projects from Garageband, Logic, Cubase, etc. You also never know when you may find yourself in a studio full of nothing but Mac computers.

It's also fun to just watch all of the Fisher-Price style lights light up!..

Glad to hear you are not leaveing :D Thats good news

I have also head the things going about the forums about Sonar maybe being able to go on a mac who knows anything could happen but frm what I hear this would take a lot of time and re codeing but the cake walk guys do such a great job I am sure they could do it

    But

With that said My personal opinion is I hope they stay away from mac and just consentrate on makeing Sonar alway the best DAW for pc

    Just my thoughts though :)

I spent the better part of last night doing the same thing, also with Logic Pro. I was able to get the VS-700 controller working in Mackie Universal mode as well. There is still some weirdness with being able to select the inputs on the VS-700R and I don't think the Fantom VS synth is accessible. However, I was able to get a mic working enough to record a couple tracks.

I must say that Logic Pro is very impressive. Some of the included genre-specific templates are amazing. They basically appear to be fully-configured projects with the audio&midi data removed. They are an amazingly inspiring way to start new projects.

I plan on spending most of the weekend becoming more familiar with Logic Pro. However, from what I have seen so far I will admit to it making SONAR look a bit long-in-the-tooth as far as layout and ease of use go.

I have a lot of money, time and energy invested in Cakewalk and SONAR but I have to say I was a bit shocked myself at how quickly I started feeling comfortable using Logic Pro. I sincerely hope that Cakewalk has big plans for the next version of SONAR.

    Hey eblue.

Is it possible to save the template for the  vs700 in Mackie controller mode like a template?? Maybe you can send it in an email to me :-)

Well I finally managed to get my 700c And I/O working but not so well with Logic, no meters, no transport etc..I do wish they put some more work into mapping out a template it's so cool to have it on the Mac..

edit I managed to get transport working after clicking the "transport Click" in the setup of Logic it sprang to life..so much nicer to use the the Euphonix Artist..

Hey guys, I just got my dual boot hackintosh dialed in (works likea  dream) hooked up a Euphonix MC control and Mc mix (craigslist = 1200 for both). I still have my v studio set BUT I want to use just the I/O.  Is that possible with mac drivers?  The only ones im finding are set drivers for mac.

By golly it works.  I have to use the volume control on my JBLs but in the meantime this will do.  OSx on intel i7 custom PC + PT9.0.1+MC control+ both screens.  Playing the demo project at 64 sample buffer with delay compensation.  Noice.

Could somebody please elaborate the settings which you used in Logic 9 to get audio input? It seems that Core Audio is seeing input, and if I turn on Direct Mix to the Main through the VS Editor I can hear input then, but input monitoring through Logic yields no input.

    Appreciate anybody's help on this!

I actually answered my own question in the meantime. The inputs are not mapped correctly in Logic 9. It seems that Input 1 on the VS-700 is actually Input 7 in Logic, and so on.

    Hope this helps somebody else!
