No personal experience but I understand it may work using Bootcamp.

I suppose buying a PC is out of the question ?

    For just under $1k
    • Dual-core CPU with low clock-speed
    • Maxed out at 8GB RAM (soldered to the motherboard)
    • Limited to a single internal 1TB drive
It's essentially the equivalent of a low-spec laptop.

Sonar does not run natively on any Apple/Mac products.  If might work with bootcamp or some other utility to create a windows environment.

If your heart is set on a Mac, your best bet is to use a DAW that will run on a Mac.

Does anyone have recommendations for a Mac -compatible DAW
It is important to be possible to write musical notes

You have a lot of choices.  I don't know the specific functionality of any of them, but Logic is Apple's DAW.  Pro Tools, Studio One and others are all Mac compatible.
