Mackie Control with a Behringer X-Touch Extender ?

Im looking to expand on my track control and I have a legacy Mackie Control MCU (The older version)

It works absolutely fantastic in Sonar and im not willing to give it up because of financial and realistic reasons.
But I am wanting to add on to what I have.

Im looking at a Behringer X-Touch Extender to use in conjunction with my Mackie Control MCU.
My Mackie uses Midi and the Behringer uses USB. Has anyone explored this option yet ?

Im even curious if anyone is using 2 different control surfaces (1 midi / 1 USB) ?
Thank you.

Technically that should not be a problem. But till someone test that practically, it is hard to be 100% sure.

I use my original Mackie Control Universal with two Behringer BCF2000's as extenders. It works a treat.

There was an additional step with each BFC2000 to tell them they were an additional device, rather than duplicating the same set of tracks as the MCU - this YouTube video put me on the right track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip2Dpa4CqnA

I'm not sure if this applies to the X-Touch, but there will be something equivalent you have to do to tell it it's the 9-16 range.

the Behringer BCF2000 is USB ? I might even look in to the Behringer BCF as well.
