Here is the manual,  it's easy.

    http://mackie.com/sites/default/files/PRODUCT%20RESOURCES/MANUALS/Owners_Manuals/MCU_Pro-XT_Pro_OM.pdf

Connect the MCU Pro to a computer with a USB cable.
    Turn on the power
Hold down Channel 1 and ch 2 select buttons and then press the Pan Pot for CH 1 to  select Mackie Mode

    Launch Sonar
Go to Preferences > Midi devices > and make sure the MCU is listed there as a Midi in and out.  Place check marks on both of them.  Click apply
Go to Preferences > Midi devices > Control Surface and click the yellow  (+) symbol. when the configuration box appears, the following below.

    Controller Surface:  Mackie Control
Input Port:  Whatever your MCU Pro is called
Out port Port: whatever your MCU Pro is called

Hint, use Sonar friendly naming convention to name your devices for input and out put recognition.
Go to Preferences Midi  Device and Double clikc the input and out put name on the fight to provide your own names for inputs and outputs.

When you load a song or create a new one and add tracks the MCU pro will respond accordingly.

    Good luck

    Peace,

    Hello Andrew,
Per our conversation, let's try resetting, then configuring your Mackie Universal fresh by trying the following steps:
    1) Close SONAR if it's open.  Open the Run Command- this can be done on your desktop screen by holding down the ‘windows’ key and pressing ‘r’ on your keyboard

    2) At the prompt type the following:

    %appdata%\Cakewalk

    3) Navigate to your SONAR folder.

    4) Locate and delete the file named TTSSEQ or TTSSEQ.ini, which are your MIDI driver settings.

    5) Also delete the file named "ctrlsurface.dat".  Once deleted, close out of here and open SONAR.
    6) Enable all your MIDI drivers if prompted; go to Edit > Preferences > Devices (under MIDI) and hit Apply.
    7) Go to Control Surfaces and reconfigure your Mackie.
    • For Controller/Surface type, select "Mackie Control."
    • For Input and Output, select the appropriate Mackie Options
    • Click OK, then hit Apply and Close in Preferences.

What does this do Andy,  I mean specifically?  For all he knows, he could be destroying his MCU for life...  LOL

As cakewalk explained to me, a lot of 3rd party suppliers have not invested in the software to rewrite updates for this particular problem.  I have been using Cakewalk Sonar since its inception I have saved all my boxed Sonar's from 1 through X3.  If I ever have a problem with X3 or any other of my Cakewalk DAW'S I just reinstall.  I downloaded Sonar Pro from Sweetwater...not crazy about having to pay for subscription every year to renew...I asked Cakewalk if they are ever going to go back to boxed set and they said that they are working on going back to that type of distribution in the future.  I have a 3 tyrb. external hard drive that backs up everything I have on my CPU.  So if CPU crashes and everything disappears I just reinstall from my back up external 3 tyrb. hard drive.  Something we all should do.   Best of luck and God Bless.  Aj
