Mackie ONYX 820i MIDI Connection and Sonar

I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the right place but if so, I’m sure someone will point me to the right forum to ask my question.
I now have a Mackie ONYX 820i mixer. It is also an audio interface as it connects to my computer through a FireWire IEEE-1394 6 pin male – male pci adapter.
When I open up Sonar 8 Producer I see the Mackie driver – the most recent driver downloaded from the Mackie site. And so, I am able to record audio from the mixer into Sonar.
My problem is with MIDI. I use a Ketron SD2 MIDI module. On the back of this module there are 2 RCA outputs – L/R – that go into the mixer. There is also a MIDI in and a MIDI thru connection.
This module does not need drivers it should be using the mixer’s drivers. This was the setup when I used to use a USB interface.
As stated, the Ketron doesn’t show up anywhere in Sonar when I go to pick the MIDI out and MIDI in source when I’m prompted to do so when I first start up Sonar.
I also use other software that records MIDI – Band-in-a-Box, and I have the same problem there as well… it sees the 820i driver but it doesn’t see the Ketron SD2.
I’m very new to using a mixer/interface and realize that there is a learning curve involved. But I really wasn’t expecting trouble getting my MIDI to show up in the software seeing as it is a simalir connection – FireWire vs USB – to the computer.
What am I doing wrong? I’m hoping that someone here with a lot more knowhow than me will be able to get me on the right track towards getting my gear up and running. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
