Making an effort for Christmas this year
Have been told I'm a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas (I've always tried to ignore it basically). So this year I'm making an effort. How long am I supposed to keep this thing up for?

your good to go, i think it has been up long enough as is, after all it's the thought that counts i haven't done christmas for many years now, i think i can make it to the end without changing that, of course being a loner and not having kids helps a lot

I've been done with Christmas for about a month now. I can only handle a few weeks of Christmas music and decorations (which started in October!!!!).

You have these local radio stations which broadcast non-stop Christmas music 24/7 from November through December. And they make a big deal of it, like "This is WPLJ bringing you non-stop Christmas tunes all the way to Christmas" as if they've done their research and found that that's what people want. But how many people REALLY want their favorite radio stations to switch to non-stop Christmas music? I can't think of a single person, even those who enjoy Christmas. It's just horrible beyond words, like some nightmare. The media and the corporate world have absolutely ruined Christmas for me, I used to enjoy it long ago but the whole commercial ram-down-your-throat cheesiness of it all just makes me hate and despise it. It's ONE DAY of the year but they essentially stretch it out to 2 months so that by the time the day arrives, it's a pointless anticlimax. You know how they say that looking at porn screws with your ability to enjoy real sex? Well I think it's the same with Christmas. All of this buildup is essentially Christmas porn. And when the real thing arrives on Dec 25 I just can't enjoy it.

When I was working in Saudi Arabia, arriving back in the UK a couple of days before Christmas was great, you missed the long painful build up. Every year it gets earlier, one UK store was putting out Christmas displays at the end of September this year!!!

I know... but I love the Charlie Brown tree. I'd get one of those if I knew where to get it! To me Christmas is like two days, Christmas eve and Christmas day. I cannot mix Jesus and Santa so I just go with all Santa. However, my wife and one grand daughter are BIG into Christmas... to them it is a season and it REALLY gets old. I try to do my shopping on Christmas Eve but with so much online shopping I may have to do it earlier. Eh. J

My better half is a Christmas fanatic. She continues adding decorations till New Year. Luckily she's aware of her obsession and doesn't expect me to change a Christmas-roof on the house or anything. I have to admit, though, our house looks really nice in the end of the year.

As a crusty old, non-believer, this is the worst time. My wife and kids love it, but I get to do all the work. Thankfully there is way more drinking at this time of the year.

Even though I've not been feeling too Christmassy this year, like every year in my little home studio, it's KISSmas. We should be putting up the actual Christmas tree in the living room this weekend. With 8 cats (including a particularly crazy kitten who loves to climb everywhere) and 2 dogs, I'm sure we're in for a lot of fun...

We had a tumbleweed for a Christmas tree occasionally. Kinda different. They also weren't $80 a foot or some other ridiculous price.
