Malwarebytes is a life saver!
My wife asked if she could use my DAW computer to "print a few coupons". We have several other computers but mine is the easiest to use quickly and is hardwired into a printer. I told her I didn't really want her to do it but she insisted all she needed to do was print a few things.
When I got on the DAW that night I had a serious trojan infection, presumably from the coupon site. It was one of those trojans that won't allow any starting of virus software and has popups everywhere supposedly telling you that you have a virus but in reality if you go to its site you send money to Russia and never get it resolved. It pretty much cripples your computer and won't let you do anything.
I had a disk image in Acronis, although I seen this as a last resort. Here is what I did in case anyone else out there gets this bug. Boot into safe mode with networking by booting holding down F8. Download malwarebytes. Make sure it is really malwarebytes and not a fake site. Load and launch program. scan and remove virus. Simple as that. Whew!
Thankfully my wife has agreed to stay off the DAW from now on.
