Managing Waves Gold Plugins
Has anyone with the Waves Gold bundle come up with a workable way to manage them within Sonar Platinum? I'm trying to avoid getting a massive pop-up list when inserting an effect, and still easily be able to see all the other available plugins or quickly get to one that is used a lot. I'm guessing that a custom layout would be the way to go as I cannot achieve what I want with the existing layouts: - by manufacturer - all Waves plugins in one massive list - by category - better but the dynamics list goes off the screen and I cannot easily find a particular manufacturer's plugin that I use a lot - by type - same issue as by manufacturer Any ideas? Thanks ZT

There is really no other way except using the plug in manager to organize your layout. the bright side is.. you do it once and never have to do it again.

What Chuck said. I just wish we could create sub-menus for better grouping, but alas, you just have to name your folders appropriately and split them if your menu is longer than you would like. Wit the new Browser enhancements Cakewalk added a few versions ago, you can categorize the plugins and search the Browser, but I still like having my custom menus right in the FX bin... Regards, Dan

Basically use the Plugin Manager and create folders for the various types of plugins that came in the bundle. This is the way that Cakewalk has their plugin already managed. Just follow their lead. Compressors, gates, reverbs, Dynamics,... and the like.

Ditto - I also created a '_Favorites' category that stays at the top of the list. I tag my most frequently used plugs of all types as '_Favorite' so I can find them really quick. I grabbed Gold last year - great bundle. Every time I see that unwieldy list, I'm reminded of what a great deal I got

Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like I need to invest a bit of time making a layout that works for me. Good idea about the _Favourites category for the things I use regularly. I must admit that I did gulp when I did the first plugin scan after installing Gold! The count almost tripled from what I already had! Cheers ZT

Picked up Gold yesterday. You're right the plugin lists are huge. Unbelievable for $143 - I need to invest serious time getting know these tools, and getting manageable plugin lists.

My custom layout has a cross reference that I find handy. 1 folder says Manufacturer or Brand, the other FX. Took extra work but I'm glad I did. If I want Gold I use Brand. If I want to look at delays I use FX.
It's Bass, not Bass. i7 2700K, 16GB DDR3, 2 SSD sample drives and OS drive, HDD SATAIII for projects, 2 24" monitors Focusrite Saffire Pro 24, Focusrite VRM Box, LAVA Lamp, SONAR Platinum 64 bit, Mackie MCU and 1 MCU XT, Akai Advance 49, Windows 10, Komplete 9 Ultimate, Cakewalk, Toontrack, IK, AAS, XLN, UVI, Air Music Tech, Waves Factory, Sample Tek and Sonivox VSTi's. Overloud, T-Racks, Audio Damage, D16, Nomad Factory, Waves Gold FX

One thing you can do is hide all of the Mono-To-Stereo versions of the plug-ins as these don't work properly in SONAR anyway. I seem to recall that they basically just lock the track down to mono and then only output one channel. You can verify this using any of the plugins like H-Delay or SuperTap and noting that the audio is all kinds of messed up when you pan out the delay taps. To do mono-to-stereo in SONAR, you use enable stereo interleave on the track and then insert the Stereo versions of the Waves plug-ins. Most of the Mono versions can also be hidden as the processing will be identical using the Stereo version on mono tracks assuming the two channels are processed independently. I'd guess that is the case for anything in Gold other than maybe the V-series. A while ago, I actually did comparisons for my favorite plug-ins where I generated wave files using both versions for mono audio and the output was bit exact other than for some of the vintage style plug-ins that insert noise and maybe do some other cross-channel processing (and may also be functionally equivalent but just different due to the randomness of the noise). I believe the Mono versions are holdovers from back in the 90s when Waves was trying to squeeze out every tiny bit of CPU and RAM available. On modern systems, the difference is not something you will ever notice and not worth the hassle of having the extra plug-ins around and the hassle of converting over to stereo at a later date (i.e. delete the Mono plug-in, add the Stereo, and then recreate your settings).

Thanks Celopadua, I will give it a shot (hopefully save me some effort ;) Thanks also Dave76, that should save a lot of menu space! Also answers a few questions regarding mono vs stereo track processing. Cheers ZT
