Marketing a record

I like how these guys are doing it.

A nice song. A simple video.

Hi McQ, I like the song and performance, very nice. Worth posting on it's own. However I don't get 'the marketing angle' you allude to in your thread title and OP.

Record an album, release it and put out an accompanying video or two on YouTube, doesn't that happen all the time? Am I missing something?

Nice video Mike.

They did a good job on it but only one thing got to me (ears vs eyes mix)-The guy on the right singing with his guitar panned hard left and guy on the left singing with his guitar panned hard right. Song sounded great just confusing to watch and listen at the same time. LOL

Nope, I doubt you are missing anything.

Mike will have some vague idea of what he thinks about it but wont have the courage to put it out there until others have been sincere in expressing their views.

Once he has got the notion that perhaps someone else will agree with where he may be coming from without him incurring any ridicule from putting an idea forward in the first place.

He may then chime back in with any original thoughts he might of had or revised ones based on how his original post went down.

He may be afraid of coming across as not being hip.

Or something like that.

Hi Gary,

It's all at face value... nothing special.

I admit to being some what fascinated with the soft sell approach to this particluar video.

It's made from many takes but just sort of feels like you are in the room.

Mike, good catch on the stereo mix... I don't know why people do those sorts of things :-)

best regards,
mike

I liked the way they did this one back in the day.

It gets a simple message across well and shows off the players too.

I think it helped create a hit before we had access to YouTube.

I agree with that, and it would have made a better thread title.

"A nice song. A simple video....    ...it would have made a better thread title."

The fact is I am more fascinated with the efforts they have put into presenting the song in a video than I am in the song or video itself.

I think it's an exciting option for diy marketing for bands that don't want to jump up and down in videos and viewers that are enjoying discovering new music or artists that don't neccesaily jump up and down on YouTube.

:-)
I hope it wasn't too courageous, so to speak, to simply title the thread with what was at the top of my mind.
:-)

I was at the "Magic" video that was linked to from elsewhere here at the forum and I stumbled my way sideways and found this video after that.

Simples.

best regards,
mike

Mike and I enjoy wrestling like a pair of little Lion cubs from time to time.

'Slagging' is all in your interpretation.  Interpretation can polarize a view into an emotion that isn't even there. We've seen much of that going down in the last few weeks.

I'm pretty sure I can safely say that Mike and I enjoy a mutual respect but we are known to chew at each others ears from time to time.  It's never amounted to any more than that yet.  It's good practice for learning how to kill and eat our REAL prey.

Yes, it has to be painted in '70's station wagon blue to look right...

I think so, that's why it  looks more like a coupe rather than a station wagon.

It obviously didn't interpret correctly, could have been down to his mic placement though.

Still, it's in good enough shape to win some races in I reckon.

He always marks the race with "Bapu count to three" and before I even get to two, he's at the fridge.
