Maschine Headaches when intserted as VST - any tips?

I've serached this forum, and NI's and am at a loss, hoping someone here can help

Using lastest version of NI Maschine (1.6) Sonar X1C - 64Bit - Audio/Midi interface is Cakewalk V-100
System has a Midi control keyboard -midi out is rounted to Midi in on V100 and Maschine is connected via USB to computer

Problems I'm experiencing

1) Insert Machine as VST, set track to record, press the record btn on Machine, start Sonar recording, there is a 1 measure delay between when I tap in and what I hear back

2) Question, How do you insert a program change in a Sonar midi track to change which Scene, Group or Pattern is playing back?

Any pointers is greatly appreciated

Regards

Tom

One easy way to insert Program Change is to use the Event List (not Event Inspector) and do the insert there.
It's actually a pretty convenient way since it's very direct/to-the-point.

There is a good Maschine manual available on the NI forum and I host a copy at :
    http://ba-midi.com/stuff/...Quick%20Ref%20V1-3.pdf

This may help you get some of the info you need to work this through.

BTW, you can turn off the '1 bar' countin on Maschine, which is probably why you're hearing that 1 bar delay.

Oh, and it pays to always insert Maschine with the "Echo MIDI" feature on (that's in the Insert Synth dialogue).

Hi Billy thanks for the PDF - good stuff

I have disabled the 1 bar count in - using "shift rec", still does not make a different

I have something fundementally wrong, and it's driving me nuts!!!

Insert Machine checking the following on the insert dialog
    MIDI Source
    Synth Track Folder
    First Synth Audio Ouput
    Synth Property Page

I then press the record btn on Maschine
Enable a midi track to record
    Press R on computer keyboard
Sonar counts off and starts recording
The beat cursor in machine starts moving across the selected pattern, however when I press one of the pads, the note is recorded in machine, but I do not hear it until the pattern wraps back around.

I susspect that has something to do with the MIDI Echo feature you mentioned above but I do not see that on the insert synth page

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your input

Regarding Event List - I have tried this, however once again I must have something fundementally wrong

I've tried patch & contoller changes with no luck

Machine does not show up as a selection in any of these dialogs leading me to believe that I do not have the midi part of machine configured properly.

I use Maschine for some backing/extra drum tracks because of Sonar gives completly no support and good electronic drumkits/drumracks (as Ableton gives).
Maybe because I use some clips made by Maschine in standalone mode, I have no problems with latency and MIDI.

One thing you have to try is - jBridge (external tool) or Bitbridge (inside the Sonar) and "make" Maschine a 64bit plugin.
this helps with lot of plugind for me and  I remember that Maschine is one of them.

Tom - did you "Enable MIDI Out" in the Insert Synth Dialogue?  It's definitely on the "Insert Synth" function - toward the bottom of that dialogue screen.

Also- what version of Maschine are you using?

Hi Billy - yes I did enable the midi out.  Using Version 1.6.2 64Bit

Stangest thing, start recording and the sounds are delayed exactly one measure.  Or one pattern lenght, only working with one measure patterns right not.

I've got my midi keyboard wired from midi out to midi in on V-100, and Maschine is directly wired to USB on computer
When I press a key on my keyboard it immeatly flashes the associated pad in machine, but the sound is delayed 4 seconds

    What the........

Oh man - it's seems to be a bug in Sonar - I had a one measure count in on the metronome - remove that and life is good  - oh well

Any ideas on pattern changes? I'm inserting patch changes but I don't think I've got machine mapped properly.  Any tips?

    Tom,

look at video tutorials on the NI website - I know theres a short manual how to use Maschine as a plugin, but I think I saw solution for pattern change via MIDI.

Personally (for now) I make empty patterns with loaded instruments and create MIDI tracks in Sonar, using Maschine as a sampler, FX processor for samples and soundbank only.

adrian - one of the issues I had getting up and running is although I had the 64bit plugin installed, Sonar did not register the 64bit version becuase it was in a different folder that my VST scan was not checking.

This cleared up a a few things for me.

I thought I was using 64bit but turned out was using 32bit

2 ways to fix the delay issue:

    1. You can change the metronome to use MIDI instead of audio.

    2. You can go to the plugin manager and change inputs to 2 instead of 8.

This is a SONAR issue.  I use Maschine with Studio One with no problems at all.   Let me know if this works for you!

FYI- BA helped me with this issue...so a BIG thx to him.

Ah right - I forgot about those "Inputs to 2" ...  (only necessary in Sonar from what I hear).

That may not solve the metronome issue, but it solves other issues for sure -- though it's a shame Sonar can't handle the 16 ins/outs now available in Maschine.

    musicman100,

For now I think about reinstalling Windows from zero, installing Sonar, Ableton and just few plugins I really need, because I think I have little mess on my computer: 2 changes of processsors, 3 changes of motherboards etc.
Not mentioning Bitbridge and jBridge issues, what starts to pissing me off (crashes etc).

Back to Mashine - I remember IN-OUT issue is with Kontakt too - Sonar doesn't wants to work properly with 32-outputs instance of Kontakt, and I'm pretty sure with 16-out instance there are similar problems.
I will check it with Steve Slate Drums plugin today evening (CET evening) or tomorrow.
