On your master buss click the edit filter and select Automation->Buss Output Volume. I believe in X1c you'll be able to do this from the HUD in the same way you can tracks now. Edit: OOPS mis-read the question. Double click on the envelope

ALT Click? Nope NOTHING X1 often does strange things here where things either don't work or stop working. I have just about had enough of this flakey unreliable unstable software......I just hope X1C fixes EVERYTHING. Gonna restar X1 and see if (like it often does) that fixes it.

Not all of the tools allow double clicking to add a node. The Select and Draw tools just don't do anything, and the Erase tool will delete that section of automation. Possibly you just had a different tool selected. Closing and restarting will go back to the default of the smart tool.

Obviously some people have strange issues, I'm not denying that, but it just works here and fixed bugs aside has done since day one. Bizarre how some users find it solid and some such as yourself flakey.

Solution Close Project, Close X1, Reopen X1, Load project..... I have to do this OFTEN and it is pissing me off coz it's IMPOSSIBLE to report as there are no logs, no obvious cause and TOTALLY RANDOM. and it has FA to do with Tool selection as I try ALL the tools

John T That's just to log a bug, it's not tech support. I know and i have used the problem reporter a lot. But how do you document or provide evidence for a bug like the one I describe? it can't be done. There is no *.dmp file as it doesn't crash. There does not seem to be any log files as no error is reported. the program just stops doing as it is supposed to until you shut it down and start again. How could I report such an issue? there's nothing for them to go on. Yet it happens almost EVERY SESSION!!!

Well, you can't. The only way forward is to look into it a bit more and try to find a pattern. It's also worth remaining open to the possibility that it isn't a bug.

Well, it could be intended behaviour that you're not expecting. Some odd setting or accidental keystroke or something. It happens. Of course, it may also be a bug. Either way, the same thing applies; you have to work out what the pattern is.

Have you tried highlighting the section you want automated, then clicking in the lower part of the clip and dragging up/down? This is the recommended ways to apply a pair of nodes at each end of the selection

This is the recommended ways to apply a pair of nodes at each end of the selection I tried everything I could think of last night. The ONLY solution I found was to close the project, close X1, restart X1, relaod the project and voila everything starts working as expected again and node placement worked as it should...no problemo. What frustrates me is that this is not an isolated incident and it's not only envelope drawing that has been effected in the past but OFTEN my X1 ceases behaving as it should until it is closed and restarted. I posted another thread about similar behaviour a while ago...I'll see if I can find it. Edit http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2324725 note That was solved by restarting X1 How do we report such behaviours?

I've had a repeatable crash when trying to set up screensets. This is documented in another thread, but I don't think there's an answer.

What about doing a save as when the problem(s) shows itself. If you save it as a separate file and then re-open it, does the problem persist? If so at least you have a file to send Cakewalk. It may be certain steps that are unique to your workflow or some other action/vst/setup or whatever. At least you'd have a starting point for pinpointing the problem.

X1 will continue to display the behaviour until X1 is restarted. A file saved after the problem occurs does not display this behaviour in a restarted X1 but will if X1 is not restarted after saving. The behaviour is not linked to the file.

Does that mean if you start a new project while the problem is happening it'll happen in that file as well as long as you haven't restarted X1? Have you contacted tech support? The fact that it doesn't appear to be project linked must give them something to go on. Installation issue maybe? If it was full blown bug it would at least be repeatable for you by performing certain steps and probably be present for everyone. Does it happen after a certain period of time rather than actions? I know that doesn't help much I'm just throwing ideas into the ring.

Just another thought.......... When it happens does it affect all envelopes track & buss no matter what the type, or is it just buss volume envelopes?

This sure sounds a lot like an old bug that was in 8.0 and apparently fixed in 8.5. Maybe it came back...such things are not unheard of. The symptoms of the old bug: - you couldn't add nodes to a bus envelope - if you moved an existing node it would snap back to its original position - the problem went away after closing and re-opening the project IIRC the trigger for this bug was right-clicking on an envelope (or was it double-clicking?) during playback.

Twigman ... FWIW ... I can confirm this happens on my system as well. I had one project where I couldn't delete the envelope, add nodes, remove existing nodes. The only thing I could do was drag the envelope up and down. I ended up deleting the bus and creating a new one and it worked fine after that. Sorry I haven't chimed in sooner, I just saw this thread. Bub
