MasterWriter?? Never Heard of it.

I have been emailed a link to MasterWriter, which is the first I've ever heard of it.

Seems quite expensive - $150, regular 200. 

Looks like others have paid as much as $280 for it. Ouch!

Based on reviews, most don't think it was worth that price at all. Some aren't even using it now.

Other reviews reveal competitors anywhere from free [VersePerfect] to [$25], RhymeGenie, etc.

Anyone use it?

Any opinions?

Yeah, I too just recently happened to stumble upon my paperback copies of my rhyming dictionary & thesaurus - both covered in a layer of dust.  Haha!

I wish to say welcome on board as well. 

I have had and used Master Writer (MW) for quite a few years.   I find it convenient to open and use to see dozens, sometimes hundreds of words that rhyme and even phrases that rhyme. 

The tech support has also been excellent on the few times I needed some assistance. 

One feature I really like is that it has integrated into it, a service called Songuard which is like a copyright by 3rd party. Since I tend to write lots of music, paying the LOC copyright costs per song or even the compilation fees would be expensive to say the least.  Songuard is a free service to all the users of MW. 

I also have used the books and dictionaries but found them to be a bit tedious and they don't have near the lists of words as I have available with a few clicks in MW. The price has come down, and if you write a lot of songs, the Songuard service will pay for the software in short order.

Yes, I suppose it would - so long as - it carries the same or better protection & 'legal muscle' that the Library of Congress does, being well established by now. 


This is not the only one I've heard of, but it seems to be the automatic 'go to' place to list your songs, even at their prices.


There are other ones I'm sure, like the one here in Canada, which is all but useless, as it offers to list your songs by title only - [last time I checked anyways]. 


Easily visible, are the inherent problems with that and the ultra-easy work around for would - be thieves is to simple change the song title.


But the more protection the better, I would say.

there's a copy on ebay for 99cents, and another for $129, I'd go with the 99cents, maybe no one else will bid...

The Rhyme Genie/TuneSmith combo is a terrific deal for $25. Great dev. I helped him a VERY small bit when Quicktime for Windows was deprecated by Apple. In return, he sent me 5 extra serial numbers! Check out the vids! Note that Rhyme Genie loads as a plug-in TuneSmith on the Mac, but not Windows. There is, however a well-defined method for moving rhyme suggestions into TuneSmith on Windows.

I've been wondering what to do with them. Not sure yet, but I can tell you that they won't be given to someone who can afford $25. I'm not going to do anything that might cost the dev a sale.
 
I live in a university town, and we do have a good music department. I know the President, and I'm sure she'd hook me up with the dean. One possibility is to hook up financially struggling students with a professional product they'd be unable to acquire on their own.
 
EDIT: Sheesh. Old age. Can't count. Only FOUR free serials to give away. Razzlefratz. But still cool!
