Mastering live performances with X1 Producer Expanded...
All that talk of R-Mix made me want to take a shot at cleaning up some old live recordings with what I already have. I have X1 Producer Expanded (the Production Suite actually if that makes a difference). What are some tools and techniques I should play around with? I would be trying to draw out certain elements (mostly a low and muddy acoustic guitar part and maybe some drums), taming some wild frequencies such as electric mandolin, fixing vocal spikes, making occasional board feedback a little less noticeable, cutting down on room/audience noise and making it generally sound smoother and more present. Most of it was recorded on a Zoom either on stage or just in front of the stage. I know this is a tall order but I think with some work and the right tools I could get things sounding a lot better. It will also be good practice and get me more familiar with X1s mix/mastering capabilities. They are 16 bit Stereo (on CDs). Would I be correct in assuming I should make multiple clones of the track to try to focus in on specific elements with EQing and then blend the tracks back together? Just looking for general ideas here. Thanks, all.
