May I change the name of the coffee house to the latte cafe??
Was Meng's question kinda weird? Are people really getting excited to probably start using the "new cakewalk" DAW on their phone to collaborate with other, non serious recordists. Seems Cakewalk's core and Bandlab users are the opposites polar ends... Maybe that's good. But a mgt question to 'ask' about changing forum hosting? Why not just be done with it and stop being a wimp>

I don't think it was weird at all. Some people will take over a situation and come in waving their big stick and throwing their weight around, others take a different, and more sensible approach IMO. He's obviously smart enough to know that many of the remaining Sonar users feel misled and/or badly treated by recent events and his best chance of retaining the custom of those that haven't already fled to pastures new is to tread lightly and make them feel loved and important. Bottom line is that he's the boss (or someone masquerading as the boss if one loon up there is to be believed) and he can and will do whatever he wants. It's more a question of when. Heavy opposition to a change might mean it being deferred to a later date, but as he seems to be largely getting support because of his current saviour status and the ensuing honeymoon period, everybody is just so relived/happy that there seems to be a future after all that they will more or less agree to anything if it's phrased the right way. It's win/win for him......what a nice guy, he thought enough of us to ask before making the changes........(that he was going to make anyway).

Interestingly enough...and OT...of all the migrants to Studio One, I haven't heard one say... I wish I could go back to Sonar. Actually, most wished they had switched earlier. Surely Bandlab knows this.

Well you have now. I had a look at it while the discounted offers were being thrown around - I though it was ok, some nice features, some that I really don't like at all, saw no compelling reason to switch. As for those who rushed out and spent on replacements and moved to where the grass is allegedly greener, there will be some that will be truly happy they did and good luck to them and some that will say that they are happy because they don't want to be the chump that bought something worse than what they already had and never really needed in the first place. I'm sure that bandlab guy knows all this and a lot more besides.

I understand. I did a session this last week in Sonar, after not using it for a couple months now. I still like it a lot, but dang if it didn't crash on me...as it usually would. Not frequently, but if I forgot my "Ctl + S" reflex gesture, I'd kinda mumble a little. I've come to the conclusion neither program is better. S1 is easier to initially use and I was able to get VERY comfortable, really quickly...., but I think Sonar has more depth and I actually like all the bells and whistles, which S1 does not have. The PreSonus" fat channel" excels and is equal to the Sonar "pro channel"...but only has a fraction of what's in it, compared to the pro channel.
Personally, I bought S1 after a bit...when I felt Cakewalk was indeed shutting its' doors. This is interesting... exciting?? ... that this has come about. But I was MOST concerned that no further development seemed to be the future, not the lacking of anything in Sonar. I totally enjoy new features and advancing with technology. Sonar slams my old Cool Edit Pro...but that was a fine program too. Just doesn't compare to how Sonar has evolved.
My $130 JRR crossgrade price was pretty painless and I now also TOTALLY enjoy using the Presonus Faderport8. It has really changed how I can do things nowadays. It's almost like going to two(+) monitors and then going back to just one.
Any rate... just an opinion about Meng and my thoughts how things might proceed. ...all is well.

Doesn't strike me as weird, to me it more comes across as respectful and considerate. It's the smart way of doing it, providing the possibility of feedback and reasonable objections.

I hope they can make sonar more widely stable on many systems. It's clear that sonar had stability issues if you read this forum. The comment back was always *your setup is wrong*. DOH. Cubase, pro tools and studio 3 have never crashed on me. Sonar many, many times. So much that I actually thought Bapu was doing something to make it happen

I bought studio one after Gibson shut down cake. I really didn't like it. So i bought Cubase Pro. I didn't really like that ether, but its better. Now i am happy Sonar is saved. Sonar is a keeper in my mind. I don't regret buying the other DAWs tho. Having just one DAW can be dumb in te long run.

It also didn't strike me as weird and I did appreciate his transparency/down to earth "non-political/business talk". At the same time, actions do speak louder than words and only time will tell what's to transpire. Then, we can make a more clear judgment as to where he's heading.

All the folks who respond positively are likely to stay positive after the migration.
Makes sense to me. You don't think he didn't know he would get a thumbs up before he posted?
Takes him two seconds. Costs nothing. And the tribe all boards the train.

True story: I had a few tracks to record last evening and I decided to try Studio One first. Now I'm using a Presonus interface and it should be simples for SO to find my inputs. Things went all callywompus on me and I wasted about 20 minutes trying to select the inputs through my software control in SO. My ideas start to turn into fog after much more than 20 minutes, so I closed SO. Opened Sonar. Within 5 minutes I had made three tracks no kidding.
