Mbox 2 Mini not showing in ASIO mode
Helping a friend get Sonar X1 up and running with an Mbox 2 Mini that used to work with PT 7.4 LE on Vista. Now he's on a win 7 64-bit machine (i7, 4GB RAM). Installed X1 in 32 bit mode (with patch) for VST plugin compatibility. Installed the standalone Mbox 2 mini ASIO drivres from here (8.0.3) and it shows up in Windows devices as it should, as a sound device, but nowhere in X1 as ASIO mode or any other mode for that matter. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

I'm not sure you can install just the 8.03 drivers without PTLE 8.x and have them work properly. I also have PTLE 7.4 on Vista 32 and once tried the 8.04 drivers but it was a no-go - only the 7.4 drivers that match PTLE itself seemed to work for me.

Make sure the onboard sound chip or any other sound card is disabled, as ASIO only supports one card at a time.

If I remember correctly, you need driver version 8.04 or later to support x64 Windows.

Is the onboard sound card an ASIO device? I dont know, is it? Your probably the only one that can answer that question. Just make sure your onboard card is disabled and then let sonar run the wave profiler. If it doesnt pick it up, then i the drivers you installed are not properly installed and I would re-insall them.

He was going to change it to wdm to just run the wave profiler and then switch it back to ASIO mode after it was done. He was going to do this after disabling his onboard sound card.

Missed that part... Digi just released v8.05... so I'd try installing the drivers from that. v8.03 if that's the version the OP used is not compatible with x64 Windows. v8.04 still had many issues.

8.03 is installed... I disabled the internal sound card, opened up sonar and it still said there were no devices. Changed to WDM/KS and nothing happened, i.e. the profiler didn't come up. Is there a way to force it to scan?

You definitely need SONAR set to ASIO in order to see the MBOX because there are no WDM drivers for it, therefore there's nothing to scan in WDM mode. Jim mentioned previously that you need the 8.04 drivers for a 64bit OS, but above you stated you have 8.03 installed. Have you downloaded and/or tried the 8.04 drivers?

Even with the 8.03 drivers, the Mbox 2 Mini does not show as a sound device in Windows Control Panel (Control Panel\Hardware and Sound) even though it is in the Device List (Computer\Device Manager)... my guess is that that's a first hurdle to jump over. If anyone has the 8.04 or higher ASIO drivers from Avid in a link form I'd be greatful for it. Right now, all I've found is http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=355067 Also, Sonar is installed in 32 bit mode on a 64 bit machine, which is same as I have on my own laptop, works no probs.

Yeah, I believe they were beta drivers only, so who knows how they may or may not behave. The 8.04 drivers must be somewhere on the Avid site, but your guess is as good as mine. Finding downloads is difficult at best unless they're already in your account. And if you have PTLE 7.4, it's doubtful that drivers for a newer version would be there. Beautiful. But perhaps someone else may be able to point you in the right direction...
