Mdi not working with Windows 10

I'm running Windows 10 and am trying to connect my keyboard with midi using a Midisport 2x2. Whenever I connect the midi with the keyboard, my computer recognizes the device, but it doesn't recognize it as an audio input or output, just as a Midisport 2x2 audio device. When I try to use Music Creator 7, I have the same problem. The device shows up, but only as a midi, not as an audio input device.
I used this midi years ago with Windows 7 on Finale Songwriter and got it to work. I'm on a new computer now and have the latest Windows 10 drivers, but it's not working. I'm very new to this, so I could also just not be setting the midi up properly. I have the midi output of the keyboard connected to the input A on the midi and the usb line in connected to my computer.

I'm trying to use it simply as a midi to input notes, but when I arm the midi track and try to input notes (with the midi selected as my input) nothing happens. If it shouldn't show up as an audio device, then am I doing something wrong?

I'm using a Yamaha YDP-223. The usb line I'm referring to is the one connecting the midi to the computer.

I've been trying USB 2 and USB 3 ports and it doesn't make a difference. However, I just unplugged the midi with Music Creator 7 open and plugged it back in and let the program find an available input. It immediately crashed, but when I booted it back up, the midi worked. I'm not sure what happened, but at least it's working now.

In my experience the MIDISport 2x2, both the anniversary and "ordinary" models, are rubbish for Windows later than XP. And even then weren't reliable.

They are very good at totally scrambling all kinds of MIDI messages and strange things can happen when they're used with any other MIDI interface hardware. I gave up on mine after it completely trashed several programmes on a DSI Mopho.

I've never got it to work remotely reliably under Win8 and have no idea how, or if, they work under Win10. MAudio are also one of the worst companies for producing drivers that work with Windows versions. I think the MIDISport Win7 driver was released something like two years after Win7 came out. Their forums used to be full of people complaining about driver issues and the lack of updated drivers.

Assuming you're not missing anything obvious in the MIDI routing, like the MIDI track and piano are on the same channel (an error we've all made more than once, or at least I have), then it might be worth trying a different MIDI interface. If you've an audio interface with MIDI in and out try that, otherwise MOTU seem to be well regarded and reliable, at least, I've no complaints about the MOTU unit I got to replace my MIDISport.
