Media Player not playing

Hello,
I have Sonar X3 and when I'm running the program, all of a sudden, I am unable to play any music with my computer's media player or any other, including video and youtube.  Eventually, when I shut down the program, the media players don't resort back to normal, however stay in this unplayable state and I have to perform a "system restore" to get them back. It occurred all at once, as I previously did not have this problem. Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Rick

Hi, and welcome to this forum.
We need more information to be able to help.
Which OS and Audio Interface/sound card do you have?
Is Windows and drivers up to date?
    All the best.

This happens mainly when your audiocard works with ASIO. For example when you work on projects with a samplerate that doesn't match with youtube or the mediaplayer.
I have the same problem with 3 computer. Suddenly the audio settings are changed. And I'm not sure if this is up to some weekly Windows updates.

While SONAR is loaded it changes audio to ASIO protocol and media player, Skype etc will not work, somewhat frustrating when you do a remote support session as soon as one starts SONAR at other end Skype stops. Once you close SONAR media player will work again its perfectly normal.
Note if you install a new NVIDIA driver it also screws up the Audio settings I have bugged with this NVIDIA as they should reset Audio to what it was before. Had a similar issue with Windows builds but the last build was okay will be checking pre release version of next build to see if is definitely cured.
O YES there is another one due out soon.

Could it be that "Share drivers with other programs" should be checked (if it already isn't)?
Another option might be, that say, Media Player or other software  is set to use ASIO driver and the motherboard audio chip, and SONAR uses ASIO and an audio interface. So, as ASIO can only use one interface at a time, the jam is ready.
Or maybe my info is already outdated...haven't thought about this in years.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
