Meeting Larry and someone else!
Last week I had the distinct pleasure of finally meeting Larry Hansen (lhansen) of the Small Marching Band. Larry was the first musician I collaborated with when I joined the forum 5 years or so ago. We've had some great phone conversations, but never had the chance to meet until now. I was in NYC for some "bidness" for a few days, and decided to call Larry ahead of time to see if he would be home on Weds. of last week. I got a new car, and really wanted to take a nice drive, and Connecticut seemed a good place to do it. Larry introduced me to his lovely wife Flo, and she couldn't have been nicer. I got to see Larry's studio, which is very well laid out and comfortable. We had a nice talk for an hour and a half or so, then he put me to work carrying in his groceries. Fearing yardwork was next, I informed him I needed to be back in NY by 9:00 that night. After giving Larry a quick ride in my new car, I was off, with a promise to have more time on my next visit. I truly look forward to it. Larry, you are a great guy. Today I played in a charity golf tournement and was paired with a nice older gentleman. He introduced himself and off we went. After about 6 holes, he apologized for not playing very well and that he had only been playing golf for a couple of years. I asked if he was retired and he said yes, but that he had a couple of other interests that kept him busy, such as playing guitar and recording. Turns out, he is Dick Bottoff, and he was the original guitarist for Ronnie James Dio from 1961 to 1968 when Dio played with Ronnie and the Prophets. We ended up having a great conversation about music, and he invited me to his home to look at some old photos and do some listening to some of his old recordings. It's fantastic getting to meet great people like Larry and Dick. Randy

Enjoyed reading Randy. I've always thought it would be great to meet Larry and James and record a tune with them. So what kind of car did you buy?

I'm kinda reluctant to say what kind of car I bought. I've wanted one of these for over 20 years. It was always my "someday I'm gonna have one of those" cars. Pulled the trigger 2 weeks ago. Ah what the hell......Mercedes Benz S Class 430 4Matic. Triple Black with all the toys. I love it more than a I thought I would! Randy
