Melange de la Chauve Souris
Melange de la Chauve Souris https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/melange-de-la-chauve-souris This is an older song, off my first album, that i am preparing to remix in the next couple of months, to re-release digitally. i'm looking for new mix ideas. my first thought is that i want the drums kicking more, and dial in the bass frequencies better, cuz that's where the swing is. :)

This is one of the coolest song titles that I've heard in a while. Almost as cool as your playing and singing. Are you sure it need to be remixed? If you change something this good, go big. Play it like you own it.

I'm with Lynn, not sure the mix could be improved, just changed. Yes, maybe some more drive from the drums and bass. I liked it a lot. Like your vocals too, maybe bring them out a touch more, but just in a few spots to highlight them. If you really wanted to change it, I heard a doubling of the tempo towards the end that would ramp up the whole song to another level. Let the drums go ballistic and add some keyboard lead to feed off that great guitar work. Not sure if that's what you meant by a remix though.

thanks for listening lynn. the remix, is just to make it fresh, and do a better mix than i was able to do with the system i had at the time (roland vs 1880 machine) i plan on updating my DAW, once win 10 settles down, and upgrading to sonar pro when i do... and remixing this album for a digital release, is how i want to break in the learning curve.

Mix-wise... sure, a bit more presence/punch on the drums, and maybe some automation on the vocals so they always ride on top. Anyhow, as a song it seems done to me. I think you're living up to your standards with this one.

thanks for commenting rebel, that's an interesting idea about doubling the tempo.... that would totally work. as it is, i'm not going to re-arrange any of the tracks (they all have live drums, i can't go back and retrack that anyway, my drummer i used lives in DFW, i'm in salt lake city) but i may retrack a few guitars and vox tracks, but if anything, i'll strip down the original density of the mix, make it more simple.

thanks steve... well, this was one of my first 'digital' tunes, so it kinda set the standard for everything i've done to date. but, i DO want to update the sound of this, to get it into a new 'digital' package, i have to remix it from scratch anyway..... proprietary data backup discs from a roland VS 1880 is not easy to work with.....

Gonzo, If you really want to do some re-mastering to this piece, might I suggest some really awesome tools that may benefit your efforts. I use these tools in my work and you may enjoy them as well, and they work along with Sonar products. Here they are Izotope Alloy 2, Ozone 6 and RX 4. The advanced products work the best and give you many more options. Check them out at http://izotope.com/ and see what they have to offer and if they might work for your needs in final mastering. Great song here and with a few tweaks from these Izotope products through your Sonar product, you could bring this song to total recall on a professional level of unsurpassed quality. Peace and Blessings, John

thanks for listening, john as it is, i have WAVES GOLD as mastering tools, i've been using for many years now, and have gotten quite adept at using them.. typically, my mastering chain is dirt simple: Linear phase EQ, Linear Phase Multi band Comp, L2 limiter and dither. that's it. i found that anymore than this, clowns up the sound.... but i've heard great things about isotope, and when i upgrade my sonar daw this season (once win 10 calms down) i may very well move to a new software, i'll put isotope in the running for the purpose.... now, THIS song, and this mix, was professionally mastered by Falcon Eddy Studio Services (new hampshire), but the whole album was mixed by me, using a standalone VS 1880 machine.... i think the MIXING has a lot more to do with the end result than the mastering (ultimately, mastering should be INVISIBLE!!!)..... and planning on mixing this in the new version of sonar is exciting to me....

hey kenny!! glad you dig this one... i was lucky enough to be living in a house, at the time this was recorded, and i had CARTE BLANCHE in regards to absolutely slaying every molecule of air in the house with intense rock and roll. LOL now, i own a Demeter Isolation Cabinet. i spent a LOT of time using it, experimenting with it, and at the end of the day, i can say that no matter WHAT i did........ it always sounded like it was inside a box. do not do this. i repeat.... Nein now, to actually build enough isolation to be able to crank an amp in a room, you have to use MASS, but it can be done. at the very least, 2x6 walls full of ROXSUL is what i would do, solid core door, nice double pane window. they even make special A/C or at least vent fans, for the inside, that are sound trapped. but that all sounds like a pain..... maybe there is a better solution for you? a place where you can go and do temporary setups just to capture a bunch of tracks at a time? a buddy with a basement?

I'D sell you my demeter cab cheap, if i thought the heavy SOB shipping wouldn't offset the cost savings... i still use it, but normally just for loading cabs.... as you can see, i've done a little bit of creative 'foaming' on the inside, to cut down on some of the reflections.... it works. the Demeter currently has a Eminence Legend 122 in it....it's a 15 watt model. and it's dirt easy to change drivers out in it... i also have a Carvin British series, i think a 80 watt model, that i throw in it from time to time...

Gonzo , Now , that is a very nice setup you have there ! It is true the shipping cost would be astronomical on that ISO cab .Then I will have to hire a piano mover to carry it up the 3 flights of stairs where I live …. It could work if you happen to decide to throw the Mesa head in at no extra cost to me , then you got a deal I know don't hold my breath ….I'm just having fun rapping w you , have a good one , Kenny

well, the original idea, was to mix this like a classic rock tune.. not a modern tune... so the drums were exactly right for that target... but with this 'new' release, it does make sense to modern it up thanks for commenting!
