Melda Plugins @ jrrshop Half Price
Many of the Melda plugins are now on the www.jrrshop.com and many are $39 dollars. In fact most seem to be half price, I know they have been doing half of through out the month on their website for a plugin a day but here they are all available. I have a few and really like them and this is some good prices!

Thanks for the heads up on this, I really liked the Dynamic EQ when I tried the demo, just bought it!

MMultibandDistortion for $25! Add MMultibandSaturator for $39 and you've got the poor man's Saturn.

+1 on the MMultibandSaturator. I decided to pass on Saturn when I found I could get similar results from the Melda plug -- no, the Melda doesn't have the modulation stuff, but otherwise it's fairly close. The control you get over each type of harmonic is great! Rolling your own amp sim is a lot of fun, too. Other Melda plugs I use a lot include the AutoAlign, the DynamicEQ, and the Dynamics. Good stuff. Cheers, Eddie

I don't have MMultibandDistortion, but I've read the user manual and it does appear to have some modulation capabilities. Not nearly as extensive as Saturn's, but then distortion really only lends itself to certain types of modulation. The only modulation I use with Saturn is the envelope generator, and MMultibandDistortion does offer an envelope generator/follower that can be triggered by either MIDI or signal threshold.

I just finished a comparison of: Pro MB - LOVE the interface! Very clean and usable. MDynamicEQ - Very nice...very clean - Analyzer functions are nice.. MAutoDynamicEQ - Even nicer with the "analyze" and recommend function and results...and with the Analyzer, Spectrogram, etc...I think it does just a bit more then Pro MB and is just as clean. I have to say...I prefer MAuto over Pro MB. I like the Pro MB's interface better and some of the features better, but sound wise I prefer the Melda....it seems to add more "Mojo" sauce...to my ears... And the fact that, even at regular price it's about half of what Pro MB is... I will probably have to pick it up before the sale is over... I can get it for less then $60... (I can get Pro MB right now for $95...which is a great buy too) Now to find the nearest bank to rob...

The one major difference is MAuto doesn't have the "Band" Solo option, which is nice to have...but I'm not sure it's worth the $100 difference...IJS...

I'm just wrapping up a lengthy review of MDynamicEQ for the May edition of SoundBytes magazine. I wanted to go beyond what's in the manual, which necessitated diving very deep into the plugin, reading everything I could find, conversations with the developer and most of all, hours of experimentation. I'll give you the short summary of my weeks of research: this plugin is deep. Deep, powerful and versatile. I don't have enough hours with Pro-MB yet to declare either it or MDynamicEQ the winner, but I can say that just in terms of raw capabilities they are pretty evenly matched. It really comes down to your UI preferences. Pro-MB is a little more accessible. It's easy to figure out pretty quickly and that, of course, is FabFilter's forte: elegant, ergonomic UIs. MDynamicEQ takes a little more effort, requires cracking the manual. But once you "get" the UI it's quite fast to get good results with.

Bit, this indeed was "my experience" with MAuto and Pro MB. It's not quite as easy and pretty as Pro MB, but it's a MONSTER...that I can say. I hope that it can get the Band Solo feature that Pro MB has in an upcoming version... I really do like the Interface and some of the features of Pro MB better...but dollar for dollar, to me, I think MAuto is a winner at $100 less (at retail) then Pro MB. EDIT: Forgot to mention, one advantage to MAuto over Pro MB is 7 bands as opposed to 6 on Pro MB.

I used that but didn't seem to be a "Band solo". Couldn't quite understand what it was doing. I'll give it another shot. EDIT: AHA...you have to click, HOLD, and move to get the "Solo" feature!!! NICE!!!

I had two melda plugs in my cart the other day. Right before I hit place order I decided I had enough already, and didn't order.
After reading the updates to this thread (Larry and Bit's discussion) I decided one more wouldn't hurt!
Bit the bullet and got the mAutoDynamic.

I recommend using MAutoDynamicEQ as an adviser rather than as an assistant. That is, let it make its EQ suggestions, but rather than implementing those changes at the master bus, go into the mix and make adjustments there instead. Here's a quick step-by-step for comparing your mix to a commercial reference. 1. Import the reference into a new audio track in your project and insert MAutoDynamicEQ into its fx bin. 2. Click on the enable button to the far right of the "Automatic equalizer" panel to display its buttons 3. Play back the reference and click on the "Analyze source" button. You'll typically only need a few seconds of it. Click the "Analyze source" button again to stop sampling. 4. Drag the same instance of MAutoDynamicEQ out of the reference's fx bin and onto to the master bus 5. Play back your song and click the "Analyze target" button. Again, you typically only need a few seconds. Click "Analyze target again" to stop sampling. 6. Click on the "Equalize" button At this point you can either leave the suggested EQ curve in place and let the plugin do the spectrum matching, or you can bypass the plugin, go back into your mix and figure what to EQ/cut/boost in the mix to effect the same change. Tip: I don't always like what MAutoDynamicEQ suggest for the extreme low end. Sometimes it'll recommend absurd amounts of gain. But it's easy enough to moderate or ignore any of its suggestions. If it suggests a huge reduction in the low end, you can probably take that at face value as an indication that you've got too much bass in your mix.

My interest is mostly in experimental music, so I could not resist the Creative Bundle. I'm downloading and installing now. I had the Multiband Comb filter and then the Vocoder, but this stuff is just too good to pass up at these prices.

Bit man, I look forward to seeing any of your in-depth reviews on the Melda plugs. They are certainly deep! That Auto EQ function sounds a lot like Ozone's matching EQ feature. Any real diff between the two? (I don't own the AutoDynamicEQ plug, just the regular DynamicEQ.) Cheers, Eddie

Yes, Ozone's EQ-matching feature is an obvious comparison. The two are indeed nearly functionally equivalent, differing mainly in the mechanics of how you go about it and how the data is presented. I especially like Ozone's ability to simply draw a reference over the equalizer as a visual guide. I can display a curve for, say, Dark Side of the Moon and see if I'm in the same ballpark with a similar tune. I like that you can have up to ten references available at all times for quick comparison. MAutoDynamicEQ is easier to use when comparing tracks within a project, easier to tweak the computer-suggested filter curve, and easier to moderate the intensity of the effect. It's also lighter on the CPU and doesn't have Ozone's latency issues. Honestly, if you've got MDynamicEQ and Ozone then MAutoDynamicEQ might be a bit redundant. But if you do spectrum matching often (e.g. dialog editing) then MAutoDynamicEQ would be a justifiable addition.

Just under the wire, I got the MAutoVolume for $39. I was going to upgrade to X3 and get the VocalRider (full featured) but in absence of that, this seemed sensical since most of my work involves female vocalists, some of whom get pretty aggressive in the chorus and such - I spend a LOT of time on vocal automation and I'm probably not that good on it, at least not like bitflipper ( I have never drawn an automation curve for a reverb bus) :) We'll see, it's going to be fun!

MUltraMaximizer is pretty cool if you're after loud masters. It just happens to be on sale for $33 today only. That's "today" as in what day it is in London, not today as here on the west coast, where it's still yesterday for another three hours.

Thanks kindly cclarry, the HorNet AutoGainPro looks very good also...perhaps a little more complex? I will demo it after I get the MAutovolume going...if either do what I'm hoping for, I'll have a little more time in my days and have a better end product as well :)
