Mellotron samples here

I found this site with some full-length Mellotron multi-samples:

http://www.leisureland.us/audio/MellotronSamples/MellotronSamples.htm

It should be quite easy to make the corresponding .sfz files for Dimension Pro and Rapture (if anyone does, please share them with the rest ).

Lots of gear. Not enough time.

TB - sfz for Mellotron Samples (individual samples)
    - for use with the 175 individual sample downloads listed at the Leisureland USA link
    --No longer available for download--

TB - sfz for Mellotron Samples Update (zipped samples)
    - for use with the 8 compiled .zip downloads (plus the Gong sample) listed at the Leisureland USA link

These files will work in Rapture or Rapture LE, Dimension Pro or Dimension LE. Untested in the original Dimension (Project5).
Extract this .zip file to the Multisamples folder of your preferred synth. A folder called Mellotron Samples will be created.

The .sfz files are under Mellotron Samples, as are five sub-folders for the sample files.
Move or download the samples from the Leisureland USA link to the appropriate folder of the same name.

Use the Load Multisample dialog to load the Mellotron mappings. Up to four 'tape racks' in Dimension Pro / LE; 6 in Rapture / LE.
There's an 8-second Amp EG & polyphony limits embedded in each file. You can override those settings in the upgraded versions.

Enable a LP1 filter in any of these synths as an overall 'tone control'. You're on your own for the 'tape' wow & flutter.

    ****************
Edit Update: Since the date of this original post, composite .zip files have been added to the link with a different file name convention.
Select the correct set of .sfz files to match your method of downloading.
Edit Update 2: Since the date of this original post, the individual sample files have been removed from the source link.

dunno if this is use to others, I use it a lot though

    http://www.httrack.com/

so you don't have to spend ages clicking links for the individual audio files, been using it for years.

    along with freedownloadmanager (.org)

I'm sure there's other ways of doing the same thing, but that's what I use anyway as it keeps the folders.

TB - sfz for Mellotron Samples

Thanks, Tom! I knew someone would come up with the sfz's.

I haven't had the chance to download the samples myself, but I will. Even though I own M-Tron, it would be interesting to run those sounds through the Dimension Pro / Rapture LE engines.

I did, and I love the 8 second or so cut-off.
I've started layering my own Mellotron Programs - in one I loaded the tb - mkii combined brass.sfz into 2 elements and shifted E2 down -12 for a real scary Fiday the 13th type sound...:)

    First, I reset:
    eg15_time2=4  eg15_level2=1 eg15_time3=.005  eg15_level3=0

to balance out the cutoffs and saved it as TB - MkII Combined Brass shifted.sfz, and then loaded it in as the second element before I shifted it down -12

    - hope I explained that right...

You did. Good to hear from the 'college crowd', MDK.

When you start constructing multiple Element .progs, keep in mind that I boosted the sample levels in each .sfz file.
Make adjustments to compensate for added Elements, either in the 'volume=5' opcode [dB], or using the Element's Vol controls in the Mixer.

Ok, found that, but now I get error messages that about half of the samples can't be found or loaded (though they're all in the same folder), and strange glide fx. I'm using DLE

Any idea what that can be?

Check to see that there are 35 samples in each of the following five folders:

    - Combined Choir (8-Voice Choir + Boy's Choir)
    - GC3 Brass
    - MkII 3 Violins
    - MkII Combined Brass
    - String Section

The 'Mellotron Samples' folder will have 180 files: 175 samples divided into five sub-folders, plus 5 .sfz files. Take care to place the right 'instrument' into its respective folder. Each of the five 'instruments' have identical file naming conventions for their individual samples.
    and strange glide fx
There's nothing in the .sfz mappings that would cause that. Some of the Mellotron samples exhibit pitch drifts at the very end of the tape spool. There's minor glitching in the 'attack' portion of most notes as well. The 'body' of many samples don't strictly align to A440 tuning. That's all part of the charm.

    - Edited for clarity.

Some of the wav files are referred to under the wrong names in two of the sfz files, e.g. Gb3 instead of F#3. To correct this, either edit the sfz text or rename the wavs.

If you can point out exactly where that is, I'd be glad to do the corrections. I'm not seeing those conditions anywhere in these files.

    Edit:
Now I see what's happened. When this thread began, the composite .zip files were not on the site. Since then, the author has compiled the samples into instrument groups, and has changed the file names in the process. The .sfz files work as written for the original (individual) sample downloads.

For the people who downloaded the later version, the unmatched sample files can be identified in the error message displayed in DimPro. The convention of using sharps rather than flats except for Bb has been adopted in the naming of the wav files in the Violins and Combined Brass samples. For the other three sets of wavs (and presumably for all the samples provided in the original download), flats rather than sharps are used throughout.

Ignore - needs to be in a folder called Mellotron samples - I think this can be fixed by amending the path in the sfz though, which would make things much more portable?

Editing the .sfz files is a great way to make them portable, or customize them for your own usage. I don't think that "fixed" would be the right term here, though. I wrote them this way intentionally for several reasons:

Compatibility - If the instructions are followed, everyone has the exact same file locations, regardless of system.
Accessibility - All the Mellotron Sounds are gathered in one place, instead of scattered throughout the Multisamples folder.
Separation - There's reasonable assurance that identically named samples aren't overwritten by another instrument set.
Expandability - With at least four more Mellotron sets in the works, the files under this structure can be updated easily.

I found that I had to change the folder names to get the .sfz files to come up. Fortunately, Dropzone put out a message in the form of a text file describing exactly where it was looking for the samples, so easy to set up the right folder structures.

I found that I had to change the folder names to get the .sfz files to come up.
I made some corrections. Evidently, I uploaded my test platform instead of the finals, while attempting to keep up with the file name changes at the source site (Leisureland USA). Additionally, the 175 individual sample downloads have now been removed from that site. The original installation instructions above should now work again. Understand that I'm at the mercy of any changes that the sample provider decides to implement.

I've added the newest three sets of Mellotron Sounds (M300A, M300B, and Woodwinds 2) to the .sfz pack. Some of these samples aren't the greatest quality (see KVR Forum topic here). I also tossed in a mapping of the single Gong sample provided by 'taijiguy'.

It didn't make much sense to map that across all 35 keys. I 'centered' it at middle C, and allowed the notes above & below that to exhibit an interesting pitch shift. The Gong will cut off, Mellotron-style, upon key release. If you'd like the samples to sustain, gong-like, add a variable amount of mod wheel just prior to triggering the keys on your controller. It will hold off the sample release by up to 15 seconds.

Thanks for sharing! There's some good sonic mileage to get out of that Gong sample. Especially when used with Dimension/Rapture FX.

Some of these samples aren't the greatest quality...

There appears to be some clipping on most of the M300A samples.
