Melodyne 4 Upgrade Question
Hey Everyone, I was a Melodyne Editor owner before Sonar started including it in their software. I currently own version 2 and would like to upgrade to Melodyne 4 Studio. I don't use an ILOK for Melodyne and I also know it isn't required if you own the version that comes with Sonar. However, the Celemony site says that Melodyne 4 requires ILOK 2. I REALLY don't want to have to be tethered to an ILOK for anything. Does anybody know if that's correct? Thanks gang.

Melodyne 4 requires an iLok 2 if you want to use its iLok licensing. However, they are happy to license it without iLok. When you buy it you can just have them license it via their website and use network activation, same as before. However should you wish you can have them transfer the license to an iLok account, but if you do that you need an iLok 2 for it, it doesn't work with an iLok 1 or the software directly.

i was in the exact same situation. I upgraded through melodyne and am not tied to Ilok, although i do have it for EastWest. No requirement from Melodyne in my case

Do it now! A few places probably still have the sale in place...Audiodeluxe.com (I know fer sure...just checked...I got it there myself last month) $125.99 for the upgrade to Studio 4! (you have to put it in the cart to see the super discounted price.) Audiodeluxe told me previously this sale price will go to 4/30 then no more...

It's multi-track. Editor will only load one stereo wave file at a time, studio can load up as many files as you like and work on them together. Not sure if it makes any difference inside Sonar as a plugin, but that is the difference when used standalone.

I haven't been able to tell any difference between the plug-in versions of Studio and Editor. I can say, though, that using the stand-alone multi-track feature for cleaning up vocal harmonies is fantastic. I'm looking forward to more ARA integration between Melodyne and SONAR. The Tempo Map drag and drop feature in 16.03 is a great start.

Using Studio via ARA, you can have multiple Region FX open at the same time and choose the active clip, leaving the others greyed out. Right now that happens by physically clicking on the clip itself in the Track View, but hopefully somewhere down the road Celemony will add that ability inside the ARA window. Either way though, it is nice to see multiple tracks displayed against each other in context.
