Melodyne Bounce Issue

I have had several projects now where I get strange errors when I bounce a project to an audio file if Melodyne has been used in the project. When listening to the project in X3 everything sounds great but when I bounce the project out, any track that I had used Melodyne on will randomly cut in and out in the mix. If I go back into the project and freeze the tracks or bounce the Melodyne'd clips I will get the same problem and this time I can hear it within the project. It seems to happen more when I have done a lot of Melodyning. And it doesn't seem to happen on every project, but it's been happening pretty often recently. Any ideas or suggestions?

I am currently running Sonar X3 Producer X3e build 352 - x64. My computer is running Windows 8.1 Pro with a 64-bit OS.

Thanks!

P.S. I am inserting Melodyne as a Region FX by right clicking on the audio file and choosing Region FX->Melodyne->Create Region FX

I don't know how fussy Melodyne is compared to V-Vocal, but VV always performed at it's best when it's working on clean, monophonic, short clips of audio. so this might be an issue.

I'm just starting to use Melodyne now over VV an only yesterday upgraded from Essential to Assistant, so don'ty know the ins & outs of it yet, though lots of posters know it really well.

The audio I'm working with is clean unmodified vocal tracks and they are all short clips (probably 1 min or less). I'm only doing minor pitch corrections. It's about as basic as you can get with Melodyne and everything sounds great until I try to bounce it.

Are you bouncing the whole project when this happens?

When I use Melodyne I use it on short clips also but when I get that short clip corrected I immediately bounce to clip.  Using this method I have never had a problem.

I should note that I am using Melodyne Editor.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

I'm bouncing the whole project in most cases but I have still had the problem when bouncing individual clips, although it doesn't seem to be as frequent. Your method is helpful but I like to have the ability to go back to a clip and undo/redo pitch changes if I need to which bouncing the clip doesn't really allow you to do.

I am using Melodyne Editor as well.

Melodyne is best used in small regions, although I have blatantly abused this at times just to stress-test the software, so it will do as much as your computer can handle. Something important to bear in mind is that SONAR does not delete audio on you... when you bounce a clip, SONAR renders it and creates a new file. The original is always there for you. I too have noticed that Melodyne seems happiest when you create small regions and bounce them. When finished, bouncing the final entire track to make a new clip is also common.

FWIW, (manually) saving a project seems to also make editing run more smoothly. Melodyne edits are actually saved within a cwp file, so saving prior to and after bouncing edits seems to make SONAR happiest (the cwp actually expands and contracts in size storing/releasing Melodyne edit info).

Cool thanks, I'll try to stick to smaller clips and I'll save often.

I know for sure though that I have had this problem on a project where I tuned one single note in a 5 or so second guitar phrase and any time I bounced the whole track or that clip itself the note I tuned cut in and out. And if I deleted the Melodyne Region FX and did it again the same thing would happen. In that case I just ended up not tuning the note, luckily it wasn't that bad to begin with.

If you can reproduce that with a project containing only that one guitar track, I'd ZIP it up and send it to the bakers for review.

I have had the same problem. It also occurs with simple playback, i.e. no bouncing. Melodyned clips sometimes just play back silence. I discovered that if I stop playback and clip the track somewhere outside the Melodyne region, the Melodyne portions will then play back normally.

This isn't a huge headache, but it definitely happens from time to time.
