Melodyne Essential
Those of you who own and use Melodyne Essential, are you happy with the performance? Does it play well with Producer X1c? I'm asking because they are offering it for 59 dollars for the next two days. Any advice will be appreciated.

I have used a now a couple times, it plays fairly well in X1. I have had a few crashes, when i use it as a VST inside a Sonar track, which i attribute to Melodyne not Sonar. For me it works better as a stand alone, where i export the track from Sonar, import into Melodyne essential, and process, and save and import back into Sonar. This way it is flawless. Some are getting it to work inside Sonar, and i have done that twice without incident, but the last time it crashed several times on me. I tried it in Reaper, and the same thing, once it was flawless, the other time it crashed. All in all it is very well worth the price right now. I would not hesitate to snap that up before it is gone.

I truly love Melodyne (Editor) the 'essential' for the price may be a good start -- I would do side by comparison of the different versions.. And the good news is you can always upgrade to the editor or above. The main concern being the polyphonic capability which is amazing. have fun i use it on almost every project as a stand alone and as a vst inside Sonar X1

I also have Melodyne Editor. It works well as a VST inserted into the FX bin of an audio track. I have had crashes but I attribute that to the massive processing that Melodyne is doing while in playback on a track. The crashes occur when I have it running in playback mode and then try to do something else that takes a lot of CPU power..... when I stop playback and then do something else.... something like adding another instance of MDE into a second vocal track..... if playback is stopped it works fine.....and as a BTW.... it doesn't always stop the audio engine. I wouldn't even call it a crash with X1 like it did on other versions of cake. I would not hesitate to buy it.

I bought Essential about 2 months ago and love it. I insert it into the FX bin and have not had any issues with it not working correctly or crashing....so far....cross my fingers. Way easier for me to work with compared to V Vocal and sounds more realistic to my ears.

I have Editor and it only works for four or five minutes before locking up and crashing Sonar. Some others have the same trouble as me whereas others here have trouble-free use. This has been discussed on other threads and at the moment no light has been shed on why this is. I'd check out the demo first. John

Just downloaded it myself... here's hoping it goes well! I did see your thread on the Celemony forum, Skyline, after downloading. I hope you're able to find some type of resolution.

On my old laptop and using MC4, I had a number of crashes with melodyne editor. I figured the processor was overloaded and just choked. So I tried a few things. I would insert MDE and let it capture half of the song's vocals. Then I'd set the two sliders (autocorrect) to about 75% and 50% rather then 100% on both. I'd bounce the track and delete MDE & the first track. Then I'd pop MDE in the new track and capture the second half of the song. It was a work around but the crashes stopped. I figured out I could generally capture the entire tune, if I kept the pitch sliders under 75%, and the result was still very good. You can always edit the pitch of any given note directly in MDE so 100% accuracy is not needed or desired.

I have Melodyne Essential and have crashes using as a VST in X1c. I like it and think it sounds a little better than V-Vocal, but Essential is limited in the editing options. With the crashes, I opt for V-Vocal because of the extra functionality. If you're not straying too far from the original pitch, V-Vocal works well. If there is a good deal on upgrading to Assistant or even Editor I may do it, but Essential is not worth the hassle with the crashes.

Celemony makes great products albeit buffer/system hogs. When you go to the Celemony website they do advise you to beef up your buffer settings when using. Aside from that, it is a good product. If you need just quick and dirty, V-Vocal is less laborious than Melodyne.
