Thanks for this Michael, ol pal. While I use Melodyne all the time I hadn't thought of using it this way on acoustic instruments. It's given me a whole new insight. Plus, I like ol Warren.

You're welcome Yorolpal! I had sort of imagined acoustic guitars.... but really got excited after watching it! Very cool! Like mixing just went into the twilight zone!
You're welcome, Rimshot! When I posted it, I had to run some errands and didn't get to watch it till later. I wondered if it wasn't a "rerun" and relaxed (LOL)once I started watching. It certainly reminded me that I am not paying attention nor imagining what all Studio 4 can do!
Very cool. I enjoy Warren's stuff a lot and watch as many as I can! His vids plus Pete Thorn's and Tim Pierce's "Pete and Tim's Show", are always really big fun, especially the last one with Michael Thompson!

Related to this, I just watched Fab's tutorial on Melodyne on Puremix.net and it's the best one I've seen yet (going to watch the video in this thread next). Fab actually teaches you about editing vocals, and discusses things like the need to fix the vocal in context and not in isolation, and how you do NOT want to use pitch snap (and why). I found it interesting how he said that a vocalist will often be just a bit sharp when going down (especially in large intervals), and often a bit flat when going up. Knowing that, you can tweek notes not to be in perfect pitch, but to sound like they would have sounded if the signer had sung them properly... cool stuff.

Always best to use the alt key when tweaking notes and let your ear be your guide...unless, of course, yours is made of tin:-)

I agree with yorolpal. The ears have it (or not)

So, James, $17 for these 16 minutes, eh?

Hmmm, Maybe. I am feeling pretty about using it so far, on vocals. I haven't tried it on anything else other than bass.

I have a quarterly subscription so I didn't pay $17 for it. The value is in the eye of the beholder for sure. As a programmer, I've paid $50 for one page of info in a book and was glad to do so. For me, it would probably have been worth the $17.

As usual, YMMV! :)

Thanks. That'll be interesting, but Carlo didn't do any vocal tuning....
