Melodyne crashed SPLAT!

I had 25 tracks of various soft synths with lots of effects, UA stuff you name it, several audio tracks...all four cores of the cpu were chugging along, only half my RAM was used,  I had  very little latency.  I use an RME PCI card to ADAT.  Everything was great  I added a vocal track..smooth.   I was amazed.  Then final edit, I added melodyne to the vocal track and boom, SPLAT crashed.  Is it better to do melodyne editing earlier in the chain of events?

Hi. What latency settings do you use? Maybe up it when working with Melodyne.
Celemony suggest 1024, but I usually do not need to go that far.
    Best of luck.
