Melodyne questions

I was using the trial version of Melodyne, I upgraded to Sonar Pro, which has Melodyne included, does anyone know how to set the Pitch Grid to "No snap" as a default? I always use "no snap" and it gets tiresome having to remember to select it each time, and while using the trial version, when I selected a note I could hear it, and listen to it change as I dragged it up and down the scale, but I can no longer hear it and cannot find a setting for that. Also, just to make sure I'm understanding it right and not just doing something wrong... I don't seem to have the ability to split notes anymore... I assume that another upgrade of Melodyne is required to get that back, or is it a setting thing?

Okay, the last problem is obviously because Sonar Pro only comes with Melodyne Essential... but if anyone has any thoughts on the other issues it would be helpful.

Also, is there another pitch correction plug in for Sonar that is less pricey?

If you have a version of Sonar 6 up to X2 (I think) you can use it to install V-Vocal. Personally, I took the Melodyne upgrade and found it worth the money.

Melodyne has its own snap settings, you can turn snap off in the menu. You can also click-drag while holding ALT to temporarily disable snap. I don't know why you're not hearing notes anymore, but sometimes (especially when opening existing projects) the first Melodyne instance presents a prompt (like "change your buffer size") which you don't see because the clip isn't open for editing. A new Melodyne instance on something you want to edit then misbehaves. Maybe that's your issue too. Is it a specific project or track that's not working as it should?

Thanks, I will check this info out... at $400, I don't see it being worth it for me, I would only use it for minor adjustments in situations where redoing the vocal would be inefficient or impossible. I haven't used it enough to ascertain whether it is project or track specific, I'll keep an eye on that.

I was asked to upgrade to something for $149, but I wasn't paying attention... Now that I'm looking at the Celemmony product page, I can't see any upgrade from Essential to anything else.

What would the next step be? Editor?

$400? I hope Celemony still offers a better deal to Sonar purchasers. There are other 3rd party plugin solutions.
Just that, Melodyne integrated with ARA and Sonar's 'Audio Engine' can deliver a whole lot more then minor vocal adjustments.

I've only been using the version that comes with Sonar, and I've not had a problem separating notes. Here's how Scott Garrigus describes it in X3 Power:

"When you hover your mouse over the Top zone of a note, the Main tool temporarily becomes the Note Separartion tool. You can double-click in this area to split a note into two separate notes, allowing you to change the melody by adding and adjusting new notes."

I'll have to wait, I chose the 30 day Editor trial, but once it's over I won't be purchasing it, it should revert to Essential and I'll play with it then.

Try turning on input echo.

As mentioned above, hover just over the top of the blob, then double-click.

I've just checked my e-mail and there were two waiting for me from Celemony. One of them contained a link that would allow me to upgrade to "Editor" for 149 Euros, so I'm going to have a think about that. Apparently that offer runs out on August 15th.

The obvious thing to do would be to select "Test Melodyne editor" from the menu in essential...

I am using Melodyne Essential (Sonar Platinum, Glxxster).  I can spit by double clicking on the split cursor, also I hear the note when I drag it.  As for the snap, I just leave it on Chromatic.  I think that is Melodyne default.

Just sayin

Andy, there is a version which sits between Essential & Editor called Melodyne Assistant. This is the version I've got as I couldn't justify the price for Editor

Hi Jonesey,

I'd gone and hit the upgrade button on Editor...

I spent a bit of time evaluating it by fixing some timing issues on my guitar playing, and I was really impressed with being able to select individual polyphonic notes, which you cannot do with Assistant.

With the discount that currently comes with Platinum it means I got Editor for 149 Euros. Converted to quids, that's £105, there or there abouts. And even if VAT goes onto that at 20%, that would make it around £126 (I've yet to see what was taken off my credit card).

So that's even cheaper than Assistant

cheers

I got Editor for $149,but endless hassle until command centre somehow fixed the integration with Platinum, before, when I upgraded Melodyne wanted nothing to do with SONAR so I felt ripped off,I still have no idea what I'm doing with it but it does seem amazing, though I'm saddened that I learned how to bend up to notes correctly, worked hard on vibrato, and now with this tool you can have great sounding solos[?] without going through the years of learning how to play,I love it and I hate it.

I think they should still offer the upgrade at a reduction for Sonar users. I bought it at 300 at the time, right before they started the 150 deal, and they sent me back the extra 150. They're pretty ok people at Celemony, send them an email and ask what they can do.
